“Amazing B&B! Highly recommend!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 7, 2014

We went on a cruise in June 2013, and opted to spend a few days in Venice after it was over. We stayed at Ca' Barba, and our experience was spectacular. Alessandro was extremely hospitable, and took the time to give us restaurant recommendations and ideas for what to do during the day. However, even before we set sail, his communication with us was superb and he was very helpful through multiple emails. The B&B itself is set off in a quiet area, and the rooms were spacious and comfortable. I'd highly recommend staying there.

We stayed at Ca Barba for three nights, and could not expect a happier stay! The B&B is located near the Realto Mercato and we can easily walk to everything; yet it is tucked away in a small quiet alley such that we get peaceful sleep every night. Others have commented on all the wonderful aspects of this B&B: location, room, uninterrupted wi-fi, splendid breakfast / coffee… but to us, the most distinguishing feature of Ca Barba is its hosts: Alessandro and his girlfriend Laura! We have Rick Steve’s Italy book (which is great) and we collect information on the internet, yet we found the advice from Alessandro and Laura is GOLD!

We had several email exchanges with Alessandro before we arrived in Venice. Alessandro gave us clear and detailed direction on how to get to the B&B from the airport, and offered to meet us at the vaporetto stop if we could text / call him upon arrival at the airport. Since we did not have a cell phone at that time, we figured we just find the B&B on our own. That turned out a bit tricky, since we were never in Venice – we got to the general area (Calle del Campaniel) with no problem, but then we missed the right turn and ended up in an alley behind the B&B. Just as we were confused about why we do not see the correct house number, we heard a friendly voice, “Are you looking for Ca Barba?” That was Alessandro’s girlfriend, Laura, coming to our rescue: apparently, she was looking out for us and heard the clucking sound of our luggage! As Alessandro could not be there that afternoon, Laura helped us settling in, and gave us a number of good advice from where to get dinner to the pros and cons of the two major cell phone companies.

The next morning, we met Alessandro at breakfast! Yes, breakfast is wonderful, and Alessandro makes great cappuccinos, as other reviewers commented. Over breakfast, we asked Alessandro for advice on things to do and see other than the most standard touristy sights. Not only did Alessandro have ideas to offer, but he also gave us suggestions on an efficient routes! We ended up taking his suggestion, and enjoyed a peaceful escape visiting Burano (pastel houses) and Torcello (a peaceful escape). Another suggestion, both by Alessandro and by Rick Steve’s book, is to go up the bell tower at San Giorgio Maggiore – it has a great view of Venice and has no line! However, Rick Steve’s Italy book stated that the bell tower only opens until 16:30 in October, while Alessandro thought it would be open until 18:30. It turned out that Alessandro was correct; so we were able see Burano, Torcello and San Giorgio Maggiore all in one day! (Please do not get me wrong: we found Rick Steve’s Italy 2012 book to be invaluable, but things do change after the book goes into print.)

For dinner, we enjoyed Cicchetti the first night (based on Laura’s recommendation) – we tried three excellent bars that are within 5 minutes from the B&B: Do Spade, All’Arco and Do Mori! The second day Alessandro recommended Al Bacco in Carnnaregio district (Jewish district) because we wanted to try squid ink – the clam pasta and squik ink with polenta were superb, and the price cannot be more reasonable!

In summary, we certainly value the nice room, breakfast and location of B&B Ca Barba, but having hosts like Alessandro and Laura, who took interests to help us personalizing our visit has made Venice tremendously more enjoyable!

We had room 102. The room is clean and spacious, with a nice bathroom and a Jacuzzi shower. The bed is the most comfortable of all five B&B’s (all quite wonderful) we stayed in Italy on this trip. It does require climbing up a flat of fairly steep stairs. Laura and Alessandro helped us with our luggage. Others have commented on all the wonderful aspects of this B&B: central yet quiet location, uninterrupted wi-fi, splendid breakfast / coffee

Would definitely recommend Ca' Barba B&B anytime! Alessandro's hospitality and recommendations from a true Venetian's perspective, just made our stay in Venice extra special. We hung out where the locals did and checked out places where little tourists went. It was as though we had Venice all to ourselves.

Our stay at Ca' Barba in October was lovely. The host was extremely attentive and took extra time to draw us detailed maps and give special recommendations of places to eat and things to go and see. The breakfasts were generous and superb - fresh wonderful pastries, fresh fruit, yogurt, juice, cappuccinos made to order etc. We had access to a common fridge with water and other beverages. The room was very comfortable and very clean. Good location in terms of proximity to major sites, but quiet and in a nice area.

After returning from a weekend trip to Venice, we would like to recommend Ca' Barba B & B Especially Alessandro for making our trip to Venice such a special one. From Alessandro's first e-mails to meeting us off the Vaporetto to take us to our accommodation, nothing was too much trouble. He recommended places to visit and eat and then drawing us accurate maps to get there. His knowledge of Venice is amazing. The breakfast's were amazing too with fresh pastries, orange juice and cappuccino, also the Burranellini biscuits (a few packs of which, we have brought home with us). The accommodation is modern and very clean (cleaned daily) and is located in a perfect location close to the Rialto bridge. We cannot recommend Ca'Barba enough and Alessandro is great, making you feel very welcome. Would love to return one day and will be recommending our friends to stay Ca' Barba in Venice. grazie Alessandro Arrivederci

We ended up having to book a hotel room by ourselves because our travel agent was unable to secure a reservation. We contacted Alessandro and he walked us through the entire process. I have never had access to a manager or owner like I did at this property. He answered every question we had, gave us his personal phone number to help us navigate getting to the hotel and if we needed something during our stay in Venice. He gave wonderful advice on things to see and was interested in educating us about things, not just brushing us off. The B&B is right by the rialto market and was a perfect location! There was also a complimentary breakfast and pop and water available for free at your convenience. This is THE place to stay in Venice!

Ca'Barba is a cozy, clean and well located B&B in Venice.
We stayed in upstairs room with the jacuzzi, and believe me, it totally worths. The room is large and well decorated. The bathroom is spotless and the jacuzzi, well, a bonus! Don't miss it if you can.
The breakfast was good, with croissant, fruits and delicious cappuccinos made specially for us by the owner Alessandro.
And speaking about Alessandro, he made all the difference over our venetian experience. He tutored us about the best (often hidden) spots in venice, how to get there and when to go there. He provided us with great insights about restaurants or places to go or eventually avoid. Alessandro also booked us dinner and helped us a couple of time even by phone answering our questioning about vaporetto's route and etc.
All in all, I don't have much to add on all that has been already said by all the great reviews as Ca'Barba is one of my top choices in Venice.
