My friend and I visited Venice in Feb 2013 for the Venetian Carnival which she wanted to see. The weather was beyond perfect as it was raining in London and we knew the weather in Venice wasn't going to be brilliant either - we checked the weather most days before leaving London!
A week or so before our trip - Nicola - the owner emailed my friend (as she booked the accomodation) about when our flight was coming in from London and what time we would be arriving. He also included in the email directions on how to get to the hotel, including two options via Water Taxi, routes, and prices for the tickets - which was very, very helpful. So a brilliant start to our girly adventure.
Our flight got delayed in London, but when we eventually arrived, we received a great welcome after our journey from Nicola who waited for us to arrive and showed us to our room and the shared bathroom facilities. He also pointed out and gave us directions to main touristy places that were near the hotel and about traveling via Water Taxi, tickets for the transport and showed us some references and maps if we wanted to visit any other great places on the island.
The room was comfy, it was warm, the facilities were great, storage and wardobe space was lovely, location was ideal, breakfast was aplenty in bread, tea, coffee, croissants, yoghurts and juice - ideal start to the day!
The weather on the Monday night was pretty awful, it was snowing - there was about 2 - 3 inches of snow and some, if not all flights were cancelled to & from Marco Polo airport. Tuesday - some flights were cancelled and not going to and from Marco Polo airport - despite the sunny and improving weather. On our last day - Weds - Nicola knowing that the weather had changed over the past few days went out of his way to check whether our flight back to London was still going ahead (which it was) and also gave us times of which the Water Taxi (Alilaguna Water Taxi, to and from locations to Marco Polo Airport) would arrive and how long it would take for us to get to the airport from the hotel - which coincided with our flights back to London. Now, I for one didn't expect that at all - for someone to make the effort to check our flight status, as well as give us timetable times for the water taxi - including duration. My friend and I were pretty amazed because of the effort - totally unepected and so sweet of Nicola to do that.
All in all, a brilliant, warm, cosy place to stay in Venice. The views are beautiful, the facilities are great, room to move, comfortable, breakfast was perfect, atmosphere is quaint, quiet and tranquil - ideal for relaxing and rest and everything from touristy shops, St Mark's (San Marco's) Square & Basilica, resturants, bars and sweet boutiques and cafes is nearby within walking distance, and the view from the riverbank and mini bridges makes this hotel perfect for either a romantic trip to Venice for you and your partners, or a girly adventure with your friends. Just perfect! If I visit Venice in the near future, I'll be staying here again! :)
