“Convenient location, clean rooms”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2012

Overall exactly as described, but the front desk staff could be a bit off-putting if you are not used to the 'italian way.' I'd stay here again because it was a nice and clean hotel near the train station and easy to come and go from.

Room Tip: There isn't an elevator, so those with big bags want to be on the same floor as reception (US 2n...

Stayed at hotel Spagna for four nights with my fiance. Good location, near to the vaparetto stop, train station and just five minutes from the bus station. Breakfast was a bit poor, but nearby was an excellent pizza place called AeOche. Staff was helpful and kind. I recommend.

As budget-minded travellers we are always looking for the best hotels at the lowest prices. Having decided that the Hotel Spagna was in our price range and had some good reviews, I began to worry that, since it was on what looked to be the perimeter of the city, we would be away from the buzz of Venice. Not so, the hotel is located in a bustling, interesting sector - very interesting, lots of shops, plenty of restaurants, only metres from the Vaporetto and the train and with a sense of being right in the 'happennings'. Visitors to Venice will already be accustomed to carting their luggage around so the fact that reception is one flight of stairs up is not the end of the world. The rooms are great - although I did get targeted by some quite ferocious mosquitoes which entered by the unscreened windows - and those rooms at the front open out on to the busy roadway which is a source of great entertainment in itself. Breakfast was quite delightful - a freshly baked croissant delivered to the table with excellent freshly brewed coffee - along with a variety of other breakfast offerings. We would not even look for another hotel if returning to Venice - straight back to the Spagna for us.

Room Tip: Ask for a back room if you don't want the excitement of a room overlooking to roadway and its ac...

My husband and I decided after our cruise of the Mediterranean that we would stay in Venice one night before heading to Paris by train in the morning. We needed a hotel that was 1) close to where the cruise ship let us off and 2) near the train station (St. Lucia) for an early train to Paris. This hotel filled that bill. We walked from the cruise terminal (where there are cars); over a fairly large foot bridge; past the train station to this hotel. (About 30 minutes.) (We had minimal luggage and were able to walk this route. Otherwise, you will need a cab to the bridge that takes you into Venice proper and it might be hard to carry luggage over this bridge if it doesn't have wheels.) We found our room to be ready when we arrived at 11:00 a.m. It was very clean and the carpets even seemed new. From the hotel we were able to walk to the Grand Canal and St. Marks Square (there are directions in Venice to easily locate these places.) Because our train was leaving very early and we had to check out early, we were going to miss the breakfast that we paid for with our hotel cost. So, the nice man at the desk actually packed us both a bag of goodies, breads and jams, to take on the train to Paris. I thought that was just so sweet. I recommend this hotel for anyone who is taking the train from Venice (St. Lucia station) early in the morning. You will enjoy your stay and will be able to walk easily to the train station in minutes and it is a good value for the price. I would suggest better beds and more pillows but for a three star hotel, it was what I expected. I am rating this hotel excellent because of the value, location and the nice man who was so sweet to pack our breakfast!

This hotel is but a few minutes walk from both the bus and train stations. The staff are friendly but our room was small with a very firm bed. It is an OK hotel for 1 or 2 nights only.

The staff is friendly and helpful, there is a problem with the internet of the hotel, location of the hotel is good, near by a boots station (public transportation) and so close to the train station which can be considered the main city entrance.

The rooms are normal, no left at the hotel, in order to reach the hotel you have to use a stair which is not good if you are handicapped or if you have heavy bags, the view from back side is bad, front side would be on a street of Venice streets. its about 30 minute’s walk to San Marco Square from the hotel, price is very good, and breakfast is home made and delicious breakfast, even that the variety is little.

Hotel Spagna is on the same street as the front steps of Santa Lucia, (about 200M along) so finding it is ultra easy. It is a reasonable three star hotel that like a lot in Venice starts a floor above street level.
The reception staff seemed a little grumpy and had poor English. He insisted on keeping our passports for twenty minutes even though there were no other guests to check in.

Initially the room looked a little seedy and dated, but we got used to the fabric wall coverings and the view into a light well over the neighboring villas. Breakfast was OK but you probably do better if you ask for eggs etc. which we found out about on the last day.

The Hotel is on Lista Di Spagna which is very busy, lots of shops and restaurants. If you keep following the street along and over the next canal, you come to a couple of supermarkets, an area with street fresh food stalls and Telco shops if you need an Italian sim card.

Overall - I would probably stay here again but purely because of the great location.
