Description: Venices Vecio Fritolin is a much loved, characterful little restaurant near the Rialto Bridge in Santa Croce where people have been eating traditional Venetian food for over a century. It is one of the citys few still-thriving fritolini, precursors of todays fast food eateries, popular in the 1800s with both the rich and less well off. The scrumptious historic finger food is still served, alongside masterpiece variations on other local Venetian and Italian dishes. The seafood and vegetables come daily from the nearby Rialto Markets, and are on the constantly-changing menu within hours. Whether they stumble or deliberately step onto Vecio Fritolin's pink terrazzo floor, everyone's invariably glad they did.

“For Venice standard a good choice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2013

We had lunch with the four of us, 4 main course and 3 desserts and 3 glasses of wine and paid EUR 170. Food and service is good. They don't drag you in from the street when you are looking at the menu on the outside which we like.

“Excellent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2013

Just back from lunch and can't fault it. Just had the one course being lunch, but the two pasta dishes were amazing, the cocca spagetti with calamari was wow! Wine very resonably priced and easy drinking. Might have to go back for the tasting menu, just hope the portions are smaller! Not sure the last couple of reviews have been the same place and we do like our mitchlin food and this is up to the mark!

“Unbelievably poor”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2013 via mobile

We looked forward with some anticipation to our first evening meal in Venice , the restaurant booked in advance based on the reviews read in trip advisor and elsewhere . The websites images of the assorted fair made it seem even better .
On arrival the service appeared initially friendly and relaxed . The menu choice was extremely restricted , and none of the supposed house specialities appeared apart from fried mixed sea food .
We waited an incredible length of time at what appeared a fairly quiet time for the restaurant . We were surprised when diners around us who had arrived later were served earlier . After a 40 minute wait we gave up on the starter and had the main course , reasonable until trying the accompanying salad which was in edible due to a smothering of salt .
Needless to say we left . This restaurant lives on some past reputation which it clearly no longer deserves . Avoid

“Not what it once was”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2013

Had the meal of the holiday here in 2008 - returned to have the same experience and were sadly disappointed. Menu had contracted significantly - prices had risen.
Food was so-so but priced to be a wow. €90 for a starter a salad and a main, a small carafe of house wine and two coffees was a rip off.
Food was nicely presented but small portions - not amazingly fresh seafood - nothing imaginative on the menu. Such a shame.

“to be avoided - a big disappointment”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2013 via mobile

This place was recommended by our hotel, and we trusted the tripadvisor reviews that rated it positively. We found the food to be overpriced and not at all good. We are 'foodies' and eat in great Italian restaurants regularly; sadly this was a waste of a meal. The saving grace was the wine, which we enjoyed. It was a Friday night in January and many restaurants are closed, I can only think that the chef must have been on vacation
