“Great views, and enthusiastic staff. Worth the trip to Guidecca.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2013

We have been here twice and have been very impressed. It's a neighbourhood restaurant, not a fancy place. We both had pasta dishes that we enjoyed very much. In the summer we had a table right on the canal with truly lovely views of Zattere and San Marco, surely the best view in Venice. In the winter we ate inside and it had a nice atmosphere with lots of locals. The staff were welcoming on both occasions.

“Neighbourhood restaurant, just perfect”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2013

We ended up here by chance as the rain was horizontal and prevented us from exploring the island a bit further. Still, the place was pretty full (a mixture of locals and tourists) and the welcome warm and inviting. We were not disappointed: we shared a large plate of marinated anchovies with pink peppercorns (delicious), I had bacala (salt cod, served lukewarm) with pan fried polenta and a very fresh salad, my husband had pasta with prawns and mushrooms which he loved. We shared a huge portion of fantastic tiramisu (definitely for sharing, there would have been enough for three if not four people) and a coffee. A real gem in Venice, great service from the ever-smiling Andrea and wonderful fare from a tiny kitchen.

“Seafood and views”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 10, 2013 via mobile

Even on a winters day sitting outside was perfect. They even had foot rests for if the water came over the top. We just did lunch but service and food were fab.

“Good but you will have problems getting a seat”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 10, 2013

We travelled at the end of the main tourist season to the Island of Giudecca and saw this establishment, not far from the Palanca water bus pier, proudly displaying a “Trip Adviser” certificate so we decided to try it. It certainly has had a lot of “rave” reviews. There are very limited seats on the front but the views are superb and it is a very pleasant way to spend a few hours eating and drinking if you can get a seat there. We went for lunch and only had to wait for about five minutes for a seat but we were early. Later, people were waiting for nearly half an hour not helped by some people just sitting there with a drink and not in any hurry to move. They were clearly not there to eat. The seating problem is not one the restaurant can improve upon but I think the proprietor should have been more forceful. That said, half an hour is too long to wait anywhere and I would have moved on. There are seats available inside albeit with no view.

The menu has a very good choice, although I suspect it has not changed in years, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. The food was indeed good but I have to say not worthy of some of the “over the top” reviews I have seen but there is no denying its popularity. Where this place scores most in my view is the way they treat their customers and I watched carefully and it was consistent. You are dealt with efficiently, cheerfully and quickly by well organised staff. When you order, the food comes quickly and it is a pleasure to be there. You cannot book in advance and I suspect this place can get really busy in high season so it is perhaps a victim of its own success in that inevitably, a lot of people are not going to get a seat.

“A real gem -- the friendliest cafe in the city”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2013

Staying in the Giudecca district of Venice, we would stop by La Palanca every morning for coffee -- the place was packed with locals, but visitors, such as ourselves were also treated to good espresso and the beaming smile and funny asides of the friendly barman. Great coffee, good food for lunch (they don't serve dinner) and drinks in the evening overlooking the water. Best thing is the prices are "local" -- very reasonable! This place is a find!!
