Ignore the one bad review of this hotel and believe the majority.
The hotel is situated in a quiet residential area of Venice just behind a pretty wooded park about a mile and a quarter from the madness of St Marco. When getting to the city centre don't be tempted by the Vaporetto station about a hundred yards away and opt instead for the stunning 20 minute water-side walk which was one of the highlights of our holiday.
Our rooms were clean, well-appointed and spacious and we had no trouble with the free wifi.Breakfast deserves a special mention as the choice of food was as good as anywhere I have stayed abroad.I would also like to say the staff were friendly and courteous and when my son was ill were especially caring and helpful.
I know there is no gym or pool (although there is an excellent restaurant-see separate
review) but by Venice standards a stay here is as pleasant as it gets.

The Hotel Sant' Elena is a quiet enclave in a green neighborhood in Venice. It is wonderful to escape here after the crowds of San Marco and the Rialto.

The hotel is a lovely building and the rooms are very nice. Some of the staff is very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is good.

Room tip: There aren't really views from the windows, so it doesn't matter where the room is located. It is in a very quiet neighborhood.

After reading reviews we expected to be very happy here. The hotel is described as being in a former convent which may be true but any vestige of its former self has disappeared within the 'hotel contemporary' look. Unfortunately we were underwhelmed.
But first, the good parts. Although it's away from the city center it's only two extra stops on the vaporetto and it's certainly quiet and relaxing. And an easy walk to the Biennale park. The breakfast is terrific with lots of choice and freshness.
However: from the staff nothing more than a perfunctory good morning often without even eye contact; we ate one night in the dining room and the server was very pleasant but clearly hadn't been to waiter school; the wifi worked in the dining room and lobby but not in our room (maybe it worked in other rooms). There is no relaxing sitting area, you have to go to the bar which is just an undivided part of the dining room and sit at a table. And when we were there a large group booked in and we felt like second class guests, eg. in the evening the dining room was closed except for the group, and in the morning the breakfast area was completely full so we were taken to an overflow area several steps outside the dining room.
We'll likely stay somewhere else next time.

Room tip: One group of ground floor rooms have entrances directly from the central garden. Good on nice days, not so good on rainy days.

Found this wonderful hotel while searching for an affordable hotel in Venice. Quiet and peaceful neighbourhood. Although it is at the eastern tip of the "island", a leisurely walk along the water/canal front to St. Mark's Square was an enjoyable experience. The vaporetto stops are less than 5 minutes' walk, so if you get one of those passes, and don't mind some "exercise", it is like a mini-suburb to the crowded city.
Our room was clean and comfortable, with free in-room wifi. And don't miss the complimentary breakfast, especially if you are travelling with children.

We spent 2 nights at this hotel and can recommend it without hesitation.

- Perfect location: it’s at the far end of the lagoon close to a park with less tourist and therefore rather quite. The disadvantage is of course that you have to spent 30’ in a “vaporetta” (5.1) to get there or 60’ with line 1 (which we preferred because it uses goes through the Canale Grande and is less crowded).
- Hotel has a nice and large inside garden.
- Generous breakfast buffet.
- Clean hotel without carpets
- Friendly and helpful staff.
- Free (but slow) Wi-Fi

Perfect hotel... but expensive
