“The best place to be in Venice”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2014

It has been decades since I was last in Venice. I didn't expect to be so overwhelmed with the crush of tourists and to be so surprised at the proliferation of tacky shops, many of which seem to be selling the same stuff. When booking a hotel I wasn't certain if it was wise to be a bit removed from the centre and to stay at the Sant' Elena. But immediately after arriving at the hotel I knew that it was the ideal choice. The Sant' Elena is an absolutely delightful hotel located in a peaceful area of Venice with easy access to the vaporettos. Everything about the hotel is good....the overall facilities, the esthetics, the rooms, the beds, the staff, the breakfast, etc. Personally and honestly, it is a perfect (and essential) oasis in Venice.

My wife and I have stayed in this hotel many times over the years. It is wonderful in every respect: from the people who work there to the location (a little off the beaten track). Going to this hotel is like going home in a wonderful way. It's very good value for the money, too. It's adjacent to one of the very few green spaces in Venice and the area is a true neighborhood: lots of kids, dogs, grandparents. Also it is easy to go for a run here, and surely one of the most beautiful places to run in the world!

At Sant'Elena water taxi stop at the southern end of the "fish tail". Out of the bustle of the central area. Easily accessible to everything by water taxi (recommend the pass) Slept with the windows open. Lovely breakfast buffet. Friendly helpful staff.

Needs a little more signage from water taxi to find it the first time.

We couldn't have asked for a better hotel! Less than 5 minutes from the vaporetto stop (well signposted too- always a bonus), located in a quiet pleasant neighbourhood beside a park with a playground (making it a winner with our 6 year old)! It only took a 10 minute vaporetto ride or a leisurely half hour stroll to get to Piazza San Marco. The hotel itself could not be faulted- the staff were so helpful, the room was large and well appointed.
The breakfast deserves a review of it's very own- what a selection!! A great variety of all the usual breakfasty delights you could hope for, plus the greatest selection of cake EVER! Any hotel that has about a dozen types of cake for breakfast gets my vote! There was a courtyard garden with sofas and loungers where you could enjoy your cake and coffee with a leisurely read of the morning paper... but as we were travelling with our 2 small kids we just watched the leisurely-garden-breakfasters with silent envy. The staff at breakfast were great though- swiftly providing us on arrival each morning with a comfy high chair for our 10 month old and an activity pack for each of the 2 kids. The packs were great and gave us enough time to have a relatively peaceful breakfast (our 6 year old had fun colouring with the enclosed markers while our baby had fun eating the enclosed markers).
The hotel was just perfect and I can't wait to go back again - next time without the children!

A little off the beaten path in Venice, this hotel met all our needs and was a very pleasant stay. Breakfast was very nice and they catered to us and our toddler, including toddler appropriate plates and high chair and a "crib" that was bigger than a pack and play which was good for a larger baby. Also it is located in the park and a few minute's walk to playground. The staff was very helpful and friendly and the facility itself was clean and comfortable.
