“Bed and Breakfast without the breakfast!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2012

I agree with a previous comment that this Bed and Breakfast which is in Lido Venice and is owned by Alvise Girardello and address is Vettor Pisani, Lido. It is NOT the one that is based just off San Marco and the bridge of Sighs which sounds lovely and is owned by another family. There appears to be two very different hotels and this resulted in us ending up at a very substandard accommodation rather than the one described.

Bed and Breakfast usually means includes breakfast but out of our 7 night stay we had no breakfast twice as there wasnt any and minimal breakfast in varying degrees on the other days. At on average 120 euros a night, we would have expected something better.

On arriving at Venice Lido we were requested to ring the owner who would meet us as the B&B had no outside signs. We tried three times to ring the owner but no-one answered. We eventually found the room ourselves. On arrival we were given a room that had a broken lock (because the previous guest had lost it) so we could not lock the room. This was however rectified later that day. The room was lovely, the view OK. It was en-suite with television.

I asked the owner about breakfast arrangements and was shown a breakfast area which had cornflakes and frosties in containers, tea and coffee. We were told to help ourselves to everything. Our first morning we rose at 9 and waited until 10.0 a.m. but no owner so we decided to help ourselves. There was no bowls, cutlery or milk. The fridge contained sliced cheese only. There was no bread, butter etc. Therefore after waiting around and no breakfast appearing we went out to buy some food. When we returned I asked the owner regarding breakfast, where the cutlery and bowls were. He gave me a large empty fruit bowl!!!! There was no apology apart from he said "I will try harder tomorrow". Tomorrow was better. We had yoghurt, cereal, cheese and croissants. Unfortunately that was the only "complete breakfast" we had. Every morning I had to go to the owners kitchen to raid the dishwasher for a clean bowl and cutlery. The owners kitchen was absolutely filthy. Food left around and ashtray with cigarette butts in every day.

On day two we had a suprise when we were offered the room opposite. Ths was a lovely room with a view to die for overlooking the lagoon and San Marco. It had a mini fridge, television and hairdryer. En-suite, clean and tidy. Unfortunately the fridge had no plug, the television no arial and the hairdryer blew cold air. The bedlinen and towels were never changed throughout the stay and the bins were never emptied. The description as advertised by venere.com was a satellite tv, refrigerator and mini bar!!! None of these were supplied in working order.

The 3 room the owner rents out are part of his home and therefore he and his family live there. Unfortunately, I feel he forgets he has guests on an afternoon as the noise is horrendous of him and his grandson playing, screaming, shouting, scraping furniture around. My husband and I like to have a bit of a siesta on an afternoon before going out in the evening which was totally out of the question. It felt like a war zone.

On the next to last night we were awoken at 1.30 a.m. by continuous hammering and loud talking. We decided we had better investigate to find the owner in the kitchen hammering away at the fridge saying "there was a big problem", ice everywhere on the floor. By this time it was past being funny.

All in all the bedrooms and bathrooms were lovely, the service a lot to be desired and the breakfast terrible. Would be staying there again or recommend it? DEFINITELY NOT!! Very disappointed.

P.S. Venice is stunning and lido has beautiful beaches. Would travel to venice again.

Room Tip: Tip: Do not go here. Although the room and view (if you get the right room) is very good, the serv...

We stayed here recently for two nights after a cruise and found it to be a perfect location. It's an easy walk to main attractions (San Marco and Doge Palace), our room was clean with a well-equipped modern bathroom. We were provided with a very nice breakfast. The staff was very helpful and accomodating. We would stay there again.

We stayed in the Batik Room last week and were amazed to find it directly next door to The Bridge of Sighs. Very easily access by the water buses, as well. The included breakfast was a made to order omelette and fresh fruit, pastries, juices, coffee, etc. Highly recommended.

I too think people have accidently reviewing the wrong hotel on here as having read the reviews we were expecting a great location (5 mins from St Marks Square), great service or at the very least a front desk.

For starters its quite a dstance from Venice, in Lido a different island to Venice entrely. We arrived at the station and contacted the owner after being advised he would meet us and walk us bk to the hotel. This was to be the first of many phone calls he didnt answer. We found the place but unfortunately nobody was in so we had to wait.

The accommodation is essentially the spare rooms of an appartment where the owners live and the en suite reached by walking through the owners lounge/kitchen area.

He didnt have any keys to the main buildng for us but advised we should ring the bell when we come back. Unfortunately we seemed to come back when he wasnt in - and not contactable by phone so we had to wait and also felt awful waking him at 1am when we came back. Not having a key also meant we had to climb the wall (about 1.5 metres high) at the front of the property as the gate was locked.

It made us laugh a lot - but very odd experience and not one I would repeat.

On saying that the owner (when we managed to get hold of him) was friendly.

My husband and I spent two weeks touring Italy and Venice was our last stop. By the time we reached Venice we were exhausted from traveling. We had a terrible hotel experience in Florence, so we really needed our Venice hotel to be perfect. Ca dei Dogi did not disappoint. The owners of this hotel work at the front desk and are very helpful. They understand that for most the opportunity to come to Venice may only happen once and they strive to make your stay perfect. Although the rooms were small, their cleanliness and charm made up for the size. The location could not have been better. The hotel is located very close to the Vaporetto stop and San Marco Square. When we were touring the Doge Palace, we could actually see our hotel balcony from one of the windows!

We had to leave the hotel at 5:45 a.m. to go to the airport. The complimentary breakfast is usually not searved until 8:00, but they had breakfast waiting for us in the lobby before we left. This hotel is a great value in a fabulous location. I highly recommend!

Room Tip: The Jacuzzi room is the largest and it has a balcony for extra space.

We stayed at Ca Dei Dogi twice in September prior and after our Mediterranean cruise. Each of our hosts: Susanne, Stefano and John are remarkable people who focused on providing the best service for their clients - and delivered 1000% for us..

Though we had most interaction with Susanna, I know that it takes a team to make sure excellent service is delivered.. All were nice and helpful people.

From the comfortable room, to the truly central location ( a few short blocks from the San Marco square and vaparetto stop), to the filling and delicious breakfast, to the quiet location and the very insightful and helpful advice from the hosts, there is nothing that can top this hotel for us.

Susanna's restaurant recommendations were superb, including La Mascareta on our final night.. The food was good and owner of this restauant is truly unique, including tasting our bottle of wine with us to "make sure it was OK".. We had fun..

And Susanna's Venice contacts to retrieve our lost luggage prior to our cruise in short order was a life saver, as we had nightmares of a 12 day cruise in our same clothes..

You can be assured that when we will return we will book this wonderful hotel again and if we have friends visiting this amazing city we will recommend it for their stay..

Room Tip: Check the web site to get the best room for you. Our room was exactly as described and pictured on t...

We arrived in Venice late due to a train delay, then got lost trying to find the hotel (not uncommon in Venice). When we found this quaint little hotel off the beaten path, Stefano greeted with a huge smile! He walked us up to our room and gave us a little tutorial. The room is very modern and CLEAN! It is a bit small, but pretty normal in Italy. We woke late for breakfast the next morning but they happily accommodated us with breakfast on the roof terrace! Stefano and Suzanne were lovely and always greeted us with a smile! The hotel was very quiet and wonderful. Thanks!!!
