“Attentive and welcoming”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 days ago NEW

My husband and I stayed at the Ruzzini Palace for four nights mid-January 2015. The hotel was chosen for its central location to many tourist attractions in Venice.

If you have not visited Venice before I would highly recommend taking the hotels transfer option. Although a little expensive (€140) compared to the public transport (€15 x 2), you are personally picked up from the airport via a car, swapped over to a water taxi and deposited nicely right outside the hotels water entrance. This does save a lot of walking around trying to make light of Venice's labyrinth of streets and the inevitable argument with your other half, which in my opinion was money well spent!

The hotel staff were very attentive and welcoming. They kindly phoned us when we arrived at the airport as we landed an hour earlier than our agreed taxi pick up time. They must have been tracking our plane and very quickly arranged for a car to be sent within 15 minutes. Saving us waiting around for an extra hour, this gesture I felt was very impressive and set a great tone for what was to come.

The hotel was a perfect example of the traditional Venetian style. Our room was a Junior Suite (kindly upgraded by the hotel) and overlooked the canal. It was clean and tidy, good temperature, quiet and the bed was simply massive. The bathroom 'pod' as I liked to call it, was well appointed and contained all the necessary items you would usually expect from a hotel of this grade.

Breakfast was a simple continental affair with the option of cooked scrambled egg and bacon included. You were able to order other cooked items, but as you would expect these came at an additional cost. The staff were quick to acknowledge us and brought fresh coffee and tea to the table.

The hotel has a small bar area which was perfect to sit in and have a drink of hot chocolate just before going to bed. The drink prices I found were very reasonable compared to other cafés and came with a complimentary small bowl of biscuits which were a nice touch.

The night before we left the concierge kindly reminded us of the check out time and mentioned the hotel would happily look after our bags whilst we explored more of Venice before we left - an option we gladly accepted.

Being January the hotel and Venice in general were very quiet, this suited us perfectly especially as we didn't mind the cold and were able to view many attractions in a short space of time.

I would recommend the hotel for anyone wanting to visit Venice.

The hotel is in a beautiful Venetian square just a short walk from St Marks Square.
We stayed for three nights in a lovely suite that looked out onto the square.
It felt like I was in the middle of Romeo & Juliiet.
The staff were friendly and helpful, advising all the best places to visit and they spoke excellent English which was a added bonus as we speak almost zero Italian!
My only regret is we couldn't stay longer.
Will definitely return and recommend this hotel to anyone thinking of a stay in Venice.

Room Tip: Ask for a suite facing the square

Stayed at the hotel for two nights from 9 to 11 January for my wife's 30th. We loved it! The staff smiled and answered questions politely. The gentleman at reception spoke English, which made it an easier experience. I highly recommend this place to anyone traveling to Venice.

The hotel was in an excellent location, half way between Rialto Bridge and San Marco. The service was excellent, and our room was beautiful. The Square that the hotel is on (Santa Maria Formosa) is really pretty, and they have some nice restaurants on it.
The included breakfast is really nice (Especially for Italy) and they actually do a reasonably good coffee! We would highly recommend it.

Room Tip: We had the cute little room with low beams, and walk in robe and window looking over the canal. The...

A beautiful hotel in an excellent location for walking in all directions around Venice. On arrival I was told that I had been upgraded to a junior suite (and I didn't even had to ask for it!!) The staff were friendly and helpful and gracious. They kindly spoke English as I do not speak Italian. They assisted in organising tours and suggesting restaurants and providing directions.

It was my first visit to this beautiful city and the experience was made even better by the Hotel and staff.

Will definitely return!

Room was nice, staff helpful, and breakfast was good.

Dear Dean L,
Thank you for your kind review, we understand you had some trouble to find us “just the first time”, since after you realized that our position is one of the best and most central in Venice. Happy that you licked a lot the room, the staff and the breakfast too…Wishing you’ll be back! Don’t forget us!

We stayed for a long weekend in December 2014. We had booked a junior suite and were upgraded to their top room.
Positives: good location, friendly staff, very clean room, free safety deposit box. One free drink of any kind in the bar for all as a welcome is a very nice touch, particularly as they allowed us to have a cocktail! The room was beautiful.
Negatives: the really weren't any major problems with this hotel, it was just a bit short in a couple of areas to miss out on five stars. We were upgraded to the top room which was amazing but if I had paid for that room I would have been disappointed. If you pay that much for a room, you would expect perfection. Tiny things like drinking glasses not plastic cups in the room and somewhere to put your toothbrush and soap for example make it feel a bit more luxurious (but obviously don't ruin your holiday though!) Breakfast was also ok but not great. There a lot of noise from the kitchen, a freezing cold draft coming from it as they had windows open, a toaster that barely works, and everything was a bit cramped, but the food they had was tasty enough to keep us going.
I would recommend this hotel.

Dear KateJM,
We regret that we miss the fifth star on your review even we did our best on the room assignment with a TOP FREE UPGRADE and provide you small touches (like the “welcome drink” which is NOT give to everybody as you erroneously said).
Please, consider that just ”ASKING FOR”, our staff is pleased to satisfy all your needing/requests…like glasses glass!
We are anyhow glad that this “minor problems” didn’t ruin your holiday….and hope to have once more the pleasure of welcoming you in our 4 stars Ruzzini Palace!
