Checkin opens at 3:30, so don't plan on checkin in before that...the door will just be locked until you get your room key. The solitary door beside a bar looks kind of sketchy, but behind it is a very comfortably set up place with modern bathroom and soft beds. The best part is the balcony overlooking Piazza Signoria, and you can watch the life unfold below your feet.
If it's a nice night, you can see the students gathering in one of the many restaurants set up in the square at night, and the noise can penetrate into the rooms, so be aware of that.
I'd recommend this hotel to people looking for a comfortable stay, who don't mind sleeping with a little background noise. Honestly for me, it was worth the central location and free breakfast in the mornings (voucher to a cafe).
