“Cosy and "ok" family hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2012 via mobile

We spent five nights on our skiing holiday in Pilier d'angle. We had a half board. This is not a design hotel but warmly family run, a little oldfashioned and cosy hotel. Breakfast was ok and the dinner typical local, not bad at all. Rooms are pretty small and old, but clean. The view was exellent; towards Monte Bianco/Mont Blanc. They had free transport to the cabin. The older lady in reception didn't speak English at all. She was there only in the mornings. There is a tiny spa area for 10 euros.

Lovely little, family run hotel. I'm surprised at the previous reviewer saying there was no welcoming atmosphere - Lucca the barman/manager/comedian could not have been friendlier and helpful and certainly the owner was delightful. Maybe they had seen the review? There were boiled eggs available for breakfast if asked for as was fantastic cappuchino - and the hot chocolate was heavenly.
The Taverna restaurant downstairs was very good and as we were on half-board, we were given a 15Euro credit per person towards the meal. The prices overall were fair and not over the top as can happen in many ski resorts.
For skiing the idea of hiring skis and boots at the base (or top) of the cable car was areal bonus and the safety of lockers for both brilliant. The walk to the cable car was very do-able but the fact that we could ring for the hotel's mini bus was a comfort after a hard day's skiing. I would certainly recommend the hotel and it is very convenient for getting to and from Geneva Airport (1.5 hours). We were on the slopes until 3pm Italian time and back in the UK by 8:30pm UK time.

GOOD Enjoyed the character/style of hotel. Great Christmas eve dinner, all dinners were very good - very italian - restaurant staff friendly and helpful.

GOOD Spa was good - an additional 15 euro per visit.

OK Breakfast options bit ltd for european guests - no hot options (no boiled egg or toast even) all continental style - fair enough!

Hotel management just need to work on creating a welcoming ambiance more.

We travelled from the UK in horrendous weather/travel conditions and a long drive from Milan. We had the briefest of intro to the room and no welcome drink offered - which would have been a nice gesture. Hospitality is after all the name of the game!!

Our room in the main building was small but OK, but no 'lounging area' apart from bed.
But Hotel lacked comfy lounge spaces for post and pre dinner lounging.. A reception area snug and a large sports style lounge were available (lounge pleasant but nearer spa area, large but empty so lacking atmoshere).

What areas there were could have been made more of by better lighting or simply lighting the fire. It was a bit disappointing that there was not a single log fire enjoyed over our whole Christmas stay especially on such snowy and cold conditions.

No major complaints, certainly enjoyed the food. but If the Hotel was a little more largesse in welcoming guests & setting the mood, I would have enjoyed it more.

I have had my wedding here.
It was low season, so the hotel was practically all for us
The hotel is beautiful, the view is fantastic (even from the lunch room), there is plenty of space to easily handle many guests (the lounge was a really precious space).
We did here both the night stay for the guests and ourselves and the lunch. The rooms are very clean and spacious. I understood there are three kinds: I think all the ones in the main buliding have a mezzanine with an extra bed, they are very characteristic (the whole central chalet is the one with more history). The one called "chalet" is very nice, all looks quite new, there are big windows with fantastic view. Finally there is a third building, I think rooms here are slightly smaller. For sure my favourite was my room in the chalet!
All went perfectly, the organization on the staff side was fantastic, and they were all very nice. The owner was also very sweet with us, and accomodated immediately any extra need without even having to think about it.
The food was very good, we did in the hotel also the dinner before the wedding, everybody took food a la carte since the menu was too rich: all was very good and of quality. The wedding lunch was fantastic, plenty of food and all very good and well thought.
On the downside, I can say that the location in Entreves might be not convenient for a summer trip to the mountains: if you want to go for a walk in the Val Ferret or in Courmayeur you always need to take a car.
We will for sure go back on our own for our anniversaries!

One of th)e nicest ski hotels we have stayed in. Rooms are very spacious (and very warm!). Clean bathrooms and rooms.

Very basic breakfast but served until 10pm (rolls, ham, cheese etc). Evening meals (if half board) were ok, plenty of food but the Al a Carte looked a lot nicer.

Nice friendly staff, big bar with TV and sofas. Excellent Spa €15 for residents at the weekend. Sauna, Steam, Room, Jacuzzi, Relaxation area with drinks and pastries.

Five minutes from Gondola, rent ski's equipment at the top of the slope so no need to walk in ski boots with skis on your shoulder - massive bonus! However, 25minute stroll into town.

American Bar in town was nice, early evening had a guitar player, some free snacks and reaonsably priced drinks (compared to the other bars in Courmayeur which can be expensive).

We stayed here along with 2 other couples for 4 nights in 2007. While the hotel is not going to win any design awards, we found it a warm, inviting place with good service and above average food.

We booked as a part of a ski package and were on half board (breakfast and dinners included, not alcohol). Whenever we pre-pay for food our expectations are pretty low, but we were pleasantly surprised. Breakfasts were hearty and eggs were available (fried, boiled, etc). Three course dinners were much better than expected too--usually a pasta course, then a choice of a grilled meat or fish, followed by dessert. The waiters were charming and always had a smile. The small bar was inviting and we gathered most nights for pre and post dinner drinks there. Our room was a decent size (decor was dated) with a large balcony--perfect for our wet boots...The shower was powerful and great after a hard day on the slopes. On our third day, I injured my knee and the elderly owner of the hotel (who is always around but doesn't deal with day to day operations) took special interest in me--despite speaking no english. He propped my knee up in the bar, gave me some special lotion, and ice.

The spa area, the newest part of the hotel, was very modern and well-maintained. My massage there was adequate but nothing special (and began 25 minutes late!). However, friends who visited the hot tub and saunas in the spa area had rave reviews.

The hotel's location necessitates a car but driving in the area is not a problem. Even though we had paid for dinners all night, we wanted to try a local restaurant and went to Cadran Solaire which was excellent. Fantastic food, lovely ambiance, and solid service. Highly recommend it. Taxi service is available if you want to imbibe.
