“Just lovely”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 20, 2013

Breaking our trip back from Lake Como, we stopped in Courmayeur. Cresta et Duc is a great place to chill out. A very warm welcome awaits you. The restaurant is very good offering a fine dining experience.
The area is truly beautiful, and local villages like Le Thuile and the Petit St Bernard pass are musts.

This is a completely restored "old" hotel that is now very modern. It is in the heart of the old town and the restoration remodeling is just "excellent". The staff was very, very helpful ...and kind, and spoke excellent English. When we were leaving it was snowing very hard, yet the "manager" ...in his good suit, help put our bags in our car..even though it messed up his suit. You just can't get that type of personal service much anymore. Yes...I'd really, really recommend this hotel...you can't go wrong.

Cresta e Duc

This year on the 1st week of February with a group of six skiing friends. We ski together every year but this was my first time to organise the trip and having chosen the Cresta e Duc I was a little nervous. I need not have worried. The style and standard of the accommodation was in keeping with this type of hotel. It has a great advantage in location as it is both near the main shopping street in Courmayeur and 10 minutes walk from the main cable-car up the to the skiing area. Where the hotel set itself apart was in the dining room both with the food delivered and in the helpfulness and professionalism of its staff. The breakfast buffet was to the required standard but the evening meal was on a different level to many of the similar hotels that I have stayed in. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel and would be more than happy to stay there again.

We stayed for 2 nights in February and were quite dissapointed. First of all, we arrived at about 12 and they made us wait for the room until 3 pm. Once we stepped in, the room smelled of cigaretes! Even though the hotel is strictly non-smoking and we hate smoke, the reception was not able to change the room (even we mentioned we would pay more for an upgrade).

They told us they would change everything in the room (like curtains etc), however, did just airing and so it didn't help at all. Our first night was just disgusting.

The reception was able to change the room for the 2.night which was better.

The wellness was very small, stinky and dark - didn't like that at all.

The only 2 things that were good - the location and the restuarant, the food was delicious. Anyway, we will certainly not come back again!

Travelled as a group of 8 girls, celebrating a "big" birthday. The hotel were very accommodating from start to finish, we added an extra person right at the last minute and they did everything they could to make this as simple as possible including a complimentary room upgrade. We checked out late on the Sunday afternoon for a late Geneva flight (its proximity to the airport makes it a great weekend option) and the hotel were kind enough to let us keep one of our rooms for the day (at no extra charge) so that we could store our luggage and have the opportunity to freshen up prior to our departure. The hotel has a great location and is a good base - you can walk to the main cable car in less than 5 minutes and its also perfect for exploring the charming town of Courmayeur. We stayed for 4 nights (Wed-Sun) and booked a half board package. The breakfast was good with lots of choice (although some people did get a bit stressed at having to wait 5 mins for certain items to be replenished, but hey, we' re on holiday and in Italy so whats the hurry?!). The evening meal was excellent, great food and very reasonably priced wine. The staff were very patient with our group, we had enjoyed a fair amount of après prior to dinner each evening but this never even raised an eyebrow. They were very professional and we could not have been looked after any better. The rooms are basic but clean and warm, bathroom is adequate - nice towels and plenty of hot water. On a slight downside I do agree with some of the other reviews - it's a pretty noisy place, especially as our room was adjacent to the staircase. It's not noisy in a rowdy and boisterous way, just people traffic and the sound of footsteps and doors shutting. The hotel could benefit from some sound proofing but it didn't really affect our stay, we were there for the skiing and it was perfect for our needs. We would definitely return - perhaps not as a couple - but definitely in a group and would recommend this hotel on that basis in an instant.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the staircases and lifts, preferably at the back of the hotel and high.

The location of the hotel is just perfect: a short walk from the cable car and right next to the main shopping street. Even though our room overlooked the street, it was quiet. Another plus was the breakfast, very nice buffet, especially for Italian standard. The staff was friendly. The room was clean, though very small. When I booked they told me all the rooms were the same size, however looking at the fire escape plan, I saw that our room was the smallest on the floor... Our room smelled of mothballs, while the entrance hall had a (faint) moldy smell coming from the spa down stairs. The moldy smell was very strong in the spa, and the water in the Jacuzzi also smelled funny. They had a small room to store ski and ski boots, though very difficult to access (steep metal staircase) and it was quite run down. Net, nothing major to complain about, but probably not the best hotel experience I had.

The Cresta et Duc provides a warm and friendly welcome and a professional standard of service. The hotel is comfortable, very well located in the centre of Courmayeur just off Via Roma and a few minutes walk from the main cable car. Overall this hotel succeeds in its aim to offer contemporary alpine style hotel. Rooms are comfortable although not particularly spacious. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff. For example they had already found out that we would be leaving at 5.30 AM and made sure breakfast would be available before we asked them. We stayed half board and found the restaurant to be very well run with the same combination of friendly welcome and professional service and overseen by an excellent head waiter. The menu was well varied through the week with a selection of pasta dishes and local specialities and they were always willing to recommend the best options for the children or even offer them something not on the menu. The wine list offers an excellent choice of Italian wines. Bar and lounge area are both comfortable and although not large are perfectly adequate for the size of hotel. We would definitely return.
