“Brilliant hotel for a skiing holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2013

The hotel has rooms at the rear which overlook the Matterhorn. It is a small and very friendly place to stay, only 2-3 minutes walk from the Gondola and cable car station which go up to Plan Maison. The boot room is huge!
We had half board: breakfast is the usual mix of cereals, breads, fruit, toast, hot boiled eggs and a very popular sandwich toaster. It is buffet service so there is no need to go hungry!
Dinner is a buffet salad antipasto foloowed by soup or pasta, a main course of meat/fish and then dessert. Dinner selections are made each day at breakfast and always very helpfully explained. We found the food to be homely, filling and varied.
The staff are helpful and very firendly. We plan on returning!

Splendid hotel, super position for the ski lifts and easy walking distance from town. Super food, loads of it - my wife was on half portions by the end of the week! Comfortable room, massive bed.
Best of all the staff; friendly, helpful and very sociable. Will use the Astoria again when we ski in Cervinia in future.

We was a group of seven people from South Africa stayng in this amazing Hotel in February. Yes amazing because we was at one minute from the slopes, two minutes from the middle of the town and we never meet a staff like in this hotel, from the first day was like to be at home in a real family. Everyone from the manager till the cleaners Were very friendly. The food was great, and the room very clean. I think they don't know what is the dust! We will back for sure! Thanks hotel Astoria!

Best hotel ever in alps. Excellent location, very clean, good service and very nice staff. I really recommend to everyone. Location in that altitude is very important if you really want to join your holiday. I also made an new reservation to same hotel for next year... Skiers from Finland

We were a group of 14 adults and children staying at Hotel Astoria at February half term. The people who run the hotel are really great. Elide, Matteo and Angelo were really helpful, charming and friendly. Rooms large, clean, good storage, clean bathrooms and lots of hot water. The food was OK, some courses better than others but good on the whole. They were very accommodating of the children, especially Angelo who really looked after them at every meal. Fantastic gin and tonics made by Matteo and good value for money. Really well located, 2 mins walk from gondola so no dragging children and skis any distance! I would certainly recommend this hotel and may stay there again.

We stayed in the Astoria in February half term with Crystal. As a family of four we had two rooms with an adjoining door. The rooms were newly decorated with plenty of storage. One room had a shower and the other a bath. The Astoria is in a very covenient location for skiing adjacent to the main lift station which we skied back to each day. The hotel has a comfortable and reasonably priced bar, a lounge area and a games room. The games room had a pool table and table football that kept my son amused. The food was traditional Italian food. There was an anti pasta which was either a simple salad, pizza slice or tart. Then there was the primo with a choice of three dishes typically pasta, gnocci or risotto, and a soup. These were the old favorites such as penne arabiata, ravioli with ricotta and spinach, gnoci with cheese etc. The pasta dishes were generally not swamped with rich sauces as you would get in England but delicately flavoured as in traditional in Italy. The secondo course was a choice of 3 dishes one of which was vegetarian. thes included stinco, veal escalopes, cotelleta all a Milanese, coniglia . Dessert was typicallty panna cotta, chocolate mousse, cree brule, lemon torte or ice cream. The food was not fancy or pretentious but exactly what we wanted and suited our children. Finally the staff were all Italian, generally spoke good English, and were very helpful and friendly. We also had free wi fi in our rooms .

Room Tip: We had two adjoining rooms double and twin with a shower in one and a bath in the other which was id...

I travelled with my husband and our son and daughter (aged 15 and 12) and another family. We had adjoining rooms with a connecting door, very comfortable and spacious with plenty of storage. The rooms were very warm, we turned off the radiator and slept with the window open. Beds are firm but very comfortable. Bathrooms looked like they were newly refurbished and there was plenty of hot water. Our bathroom had a small bath and the children had a shower in their bathroom so we had a choice, so if you might want to bear this in mind if you prefer showers/baths.
The food was basically good, portions were big, but sometimes a bit plain. You can ask for jugs of tap water in the restaurant, at the beginning of the week we were refused and bought bottled water but at the end of the week there was a different waiter and jugs of water were provided. Wines were reasonable value and a good choice.
Staff were helpful and friendly though busy.
The boot/ski room is large and warm, although the boot storage itself is not heated.
Ideally located for access to the main gondola (a very short walk up the hill) and also for the town (a short walk down the hill).
We managed to ski back to within a two minute walk of the hotel.
I would stay here again.

Room Tip: We were on the first floor above the front door, because we had the window open at night we could he...
