This was our second stay at Hotel Mayr and it was just as good as the first three years ago. The hotel is in the lovely old town of Castelrotto (Kastelruth) at the foot of the largest alpine meadow in Europe. It is situated a five minute walk from the town centre and from the bus station. We were greeted warmly on arrival and our bedroom had a lovely view across the fields toward the village of Saint Michael - some rooms don't have this view so you need to ask for it when booking. The hotel itself has a lovely bar/lounge area with lots of carved pine, an equally lovely dining room, and a large terrace with the same view as our bedroom, which is a very pleasant place to sit and have a cappuccino before breakfast, of a coffee in the afternoon. The breakfast buffet offers an extensive (and I mean large) choice. The owner (Werner) is also the chef and prepares a set dinner menu (5 courses)each day to a very high standard. The wine list is extensive and very good. The hotel also has a sauna which we didn't use. The ground floor is wheelchair accessible but there is no lift, although one is planned. It has it's own car park. We hope to return with friends in 2012 and will look forward to it.
