The Meridien Lingotto really is two hotels. There is the 4 star Meridien Lingotto (classic) and the 5 star Meridien Art+Tech.
We stayed in the Art+Tech for €150 per night including breakfast.
As the person before me already gave a general description I will mainly concern myself with the severe short comings in service.
When got out of the taxi from the airport ( forget about taking the train from Caselle airport as you end up at a small station at the other end of town where the hotel is located unless you travel very lightly ) we were not met by a porter.
As we had a garanteed reservation for a double ( and dinner reservation ) we were disappointed that the only room left was a twin.
When the porter finally appeared he just dumped our stuff on the floor he did not take out the luggage rack from the wardrobe and did not hang up my jacket. We also noticed that Housekeeping (HK) only expected only one person in the guestroom as there only was one bathrobe, towel etc.
I contacted the Dutymanager and she promised she would move us the next day.
The next morning the breakfast was served in a conference room as a German classical orchestra had taken over the restaurant as rehearsal space. Why they did not inform us either verbally or written at check in is another detail which was a let down.
We were indeed moved to a double room where once again the porter dumped everything in the room and HK once again provided only for a single person. By the way try to get an even numbered room as they are quieter( if you like to open the window as we do ) and the view is a bit better.
I was also disappointed that the hotel did not have a fitness centre with sauna etc every 5 star I stayed in always had one.
On our second stay a week later the porter finally remembered to take out the luggage rack and hang my jacket in the wardrobe but HK insisted once again on 1 person in the room. Unfortunately once again we were not met by a porter when we arrived.
As the Germans had left we could have breakfast in the restaurant but were disappointed by the staff 20 minutes before closing time. Yes they already started taking away bits and pieces of the buffet.
The music in the morning was also not the best choice a whole cd of Harry Conick backed with a big band, The music is extremely limited anyways as they had about 5 cd's only.
These are just a few instances were I think the hotel does not deserve 5 stars. They have to work on a lot of details to make the grade.
I have to admit that I am a fan of the Art+Tech rooms so I was fairly happy with the rooms very high ceilings but please remove those horrible fixed on the wall hairdryers. They certainly ruin the lookof the bathroom.
Oh yes if you want to have a really good meal in Turin go to Vintage 1997 excellent food very good wine list and the maitre d' is a very nice and helpful chap. Also go and have an ice cream at Otto's cafe in the Lingotto mall it is one of the best icecreams I had even beats Della Palma in Rome.
