“Great 3 stars, great staff bad breakfast”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 31, 2013

The hotel is really great and clean, only 15 minutes walking to the Duomo. The staff is really friendly and professional but it's missing a restaurant in there and the bar seems a little poor.
You can take smoke rooms and non smoke rooms.
Wifi is not free and don't work on the rooms.
Secure garage under the hotel with a fee.
For a 3 stars is really good, i prefer a 4 stars for more confort.

I really dont understand how this hotel has an average of 4/5. My guess is the hotel staff are leaving themselves reviews. For starters, the location is not good at all. With many reasonably priced hotels right in the centre, this was outside the centre and involved a long walk or a tram or bus ride to get into the centre. It's more like downtown Turin, with the views from the hotels reminiscent of a shanty town in Rio. The overall cleanliness of the room was poor to say the least. Have a look under you bed to be greeted by about 5 years worth of dust. We also had a couple of dead bugs on our floor. Secondly, my girlfriends camera went missing from the room whilst we were out in the day and it was unusual that the staff, who spoke ok English, didnt know what a camera was. They seemed to play dumb to it all. The televisions in the room were built in the 80s and are very small. I accidently broke the tv in our room, and owned up to it, and was subsequently charged 500 euros to replace it. I could've come back to London, bought the same tv and shipped it back to Turin for around 450 euros less. The lift in reception is tiny, me and my girlfriend couldnt fit in with our luggage. There was free street parking, but you'd be lucky to get a spot that doesnt involve a 5 minute walk to the hotel. When I told the hotel staff, there was no mention of underground parking that had been promised on their website. Our room had a stupid lamp that was very low and you cant sit by the desk without bashing your head. There was a cord that could be used to move the lamp, but it had the heaviest metal tip, so it was either bash your head on the lamp or the huge metal cord. We couldnt even fit a 1.25l bottle of coke in the fridge and there was a strange olive smell coming from our fridge. The decor was terrible, horribly painted walls and furniture that did not match the colour scheme. The air con was broken most of the time, which involved sleeping in horrible humidity.
Now the good points. . . . . . errrm. . . . that is all.

Room Tip: Don't stay here!

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Hotel Alexandra over the Easter break (April 6th-9th 2012) and it was very good. Our room was clean and a decent size and had all the usual amenities (desk, tv, fridge, safe). The reception staff were helpful and ready with a map to direct us get to the tourist spots. The hotel itself isn't in the greatest location, but the transport links are great. You can easily catch a tram to central Turin and bus 11 goes straight to Venaria Reale -the stop (Emilia) is less than a 5 minute walk from the hotel. I would suggest getting a 3 day transport ticket, and then you can hop on and off the trams and buses across the city (to Venaria Reale and Sassi-Superga too).

Take a few minutes to go up to the roof for a lovely view of the Alps. Would stay again.

On arrival in Turin we were surprised at firstly how big the city was and secondly how chaotic it was. Perhaps I had not done enough research on the place, but I thought it would be an idyllic Northern Italian City....it is not. But I am not here to review the city, instead the Hotel Alexandra. We took a cab to the hotel and were slightly alarmed that the driver took great pains to explain that it was not in a good area, and that we should be very careful. The truth is that there are many immigrants in this neck of the woods, so we just assumed the driver was racist and left it at that! If I'm honest I didn't feel exactly safe after dark, but nothing actually happened, so in some respects our fears were unfounded. The man on reception could have been friendlier, but he wasn't rude as such, he gave us the key to the room and pointed us in the right direction. The room itself was beautifully clean and big enough for the two of us. The bathroom was again clean, and perfectly adequate and the shower powerful. We were concerned that although on the 4th floor the room would be noisy at night, but as soon as the shutters were down and the windows closed it was fine. Our only problem with the room was that the air con didn't work and so the room was unbearably hot. I did call down to reception and the surly receptionist came and looked at the unit, he basically said that it didn't get cooler than 15deg celsius, but I can tell you that it was MUCH MUCH warmer than 15degrees!!!
Breakfast was GREAT! The lady serving coffee and attending to things was friendly and the items on offer were plentiful (bread/croissants/yoghurt/fruit/cereal/ham/cheese etc etc). We left our bags at reception and went to explore the city, but thats another story! In short, for the price the hotel was great, the area left a lot to be desired, but when you pay lost prices what do you expect? You can't have the moon on a stick!

Room Tip: If possible aim for a non roadside room.

We arrived and were met by a very rude manager who started talking to local ppl who came in smelling of alcohol while we were getting out keys, we then had to wait for him to talk and greet them before he came back to us. The rooms are too hot an aircon does not work. On the last night my friend got Mugged on the steps of the hotel at 8 when it was still daylight, an when we came in to complain and get them to call the police they would not call and just pointed on a map and said go here. They appeared to not care like it was normal. The car park is 14 euro an on street parking is next to the hotel for free but the area is very rough and I would not recommend walking around at night.

+The Hotel and rooms are modern and self-sufficient
+Clean and well-kept (room was cleaned every day)
+Helpful, English-speaking reception
+Nice breakfast buffet with warm croissants, freshly squeezed juices and cold cuts
+Next to public transport and 15 min. walk to city center
+Ask for a room with a view to Alps!

-The area is nor very interesting nor nice..
-The cost of wi-fi connection was unreasonable..

when we arrived we were a little concerned by the area and the fact that all the shutters were down on the bedrooms. We were pleasantly surprised when we got inside however as the hotel is very clean and bright and the service was very friendly. There is a secure underground carpark right next to the hotel and a great square with really nice bars and restaurants about a 10 minute walk away. Breakfast was included and was also very good.
