Room booked was a "deluxe" room for three days in the first half of Feb 2014 and for two people (as opposed to a "standard"). The price for the deluxe room was 153 euros per night and I was told this was discounted from 208 euros (for the standard room I was quoted 113 euros and told it was discounted from 178). Based on other tripadvisor reviews it appears each deluxe room is furnished and decorated differently. Ours was room 207 which had at least one previous bad review. This room was not so bad. The main problem is a small bathroom with a total of three doors to contend with (two of them were shower doors). This made its use a bit clumsy. There was a big bathtub separate from the shower/toilet area. There were nice towels and thick robes in the room. The bed was enclosed in a sort of glass box: glass walls within the room from floor to ceiling as well as glass doors. It was interesting and did not bother us. This room had hardwood floors. The room rate included wifi and breakfast. The wifi has a strong password given to you on a ticket that expires 24 hours from first use. You can ask for multiple tickets. It needed to be reentered again frequently due to auto logouts. The wifi connection was slow. Breakfast was good with fresh brioches, cheese, cold cuts, cereal, fruit etc). Coffee was made with a real espresso maker (versus an automatic self service machine- although there was one there in the breakfast room). Reception staff was friendly and accommodating. On the last day we checked out at checkout time (11am) and missed breakfast. We were asked (possibly by the owner or manager) if we would like a coffee and brioche while we waited in the lobby. This was impressive to me. There are a few hotels in Pavia to choose from. You can get a basic room with wifi and breakfast for a lot less at some nearby hotels. The Hotel Moderno is probably the nicest but it may not be worth the extra expense. Tips from a frequent Italy and Pavia visitor: wifi is slow in most of the hotels I have been to in Italy; if possible I usually pass on spending extra for breakfast and opt to go to a coffee bar to eat breakfast like an Italian (for usually less than 3 euros); do not expect the air conditioning to be very cold; do not expect the air conditioner to be available year round; do not expect the heater to be available year round; in Italy the price changes based on one or two person occupancy so book accordingly- you will be charged a supplement if someone extra shows up for a room booked for one person; it is normal to be asked to hand over your passports upon check-in;
