Having seen the other reviews, I think we ended up in one of the old rooms not the refurbished ones. Yes it was massively out of date, but the room was huge. The breakfast though nothing spectacular was above average, the rooms were spotlessly clean and the staff attentive and personable. The price was reasonable (£119 a per night with breakfast) in comparisson with many of the hotels in this expensive city, there are some very good restaurants nearby and the metro is indeed within walking distance thus placing everything you may need within easy reach. Two resaurants I can recommend in the area are Dongio on via Corio and Giulio Pane e Ojo on via L Muratori which is Roman. Both need booking or turning up early (before 8!). Dongio in particular is good and great if you want a break from heavy Milanese fare.

  • Liked — the size of the rooms is huge
  • Disliked — Old, old, did I say old?

I booked this hotel based on a lot of the reviews on tripadvisor and I am glad i did. Yes the decor is dated but who can judge on decor of a hotel? I judged this hotel on services which were all brilliant. The check in took no time at all and from that point everything just carried on perfectly. Our room was large with plenty of room for our luggage and shopping!! The bathroom was very clean and toiletries were provided. We had a kitchen in the room was a very nice surprise as it was somewhere to keep our water cold in a very hot country!! it is only a ten min walk to the Duomo and then 5 mins from there to the castle which was brilliant, the only problem we had on the whole trip was that we came when practically the whole of milan was on holiday and shut for 2 weeks! lots of restaurants/shops/bars were all shut and we couldnt actually find many places to buy bottles of water from!! The only time in my life i was glad to see a mcdonalds as i was dying of thirst from the heat!! Milan is a beautiful city the arcituecture is to die for and so are the shops and the pizzas and the pastas i could go on forever! The hotel breakfast was very nice, a good choice of hot food and continental style breakfasts and the all important cup of tea!! plenty of room in the breakfast room too. the hotel rooms also have proper shutter blinds to keep out the sunlight which appeared at 7am during my trip so that is a very good plus it also helped keep out the noise of traffic as milan is a very busy city. i would definately stay here again and it was excellent value for money and very good service recieved.

  • Liked — fridge in the room!
  • Disliked — no kettle in the room!

Arriving at the hotel it was a joy to find a garage with plenty of space. The staff is friendly and speaks english quite well. We got a room with a view to the main road but noise wasn't a problem even though I feared this. The additional child bead was allready in place and there was reallyh NOTHING to complain about. As fellow travellers have stated, the breakfast is excellent and it was a joy to stay with a small child (2,5 years). The room (334) was huge and even with a small kitchen. You'll find the metro 50m meters from the hotel and you can reach the Duomo by walking within 10 minutes.

I will definately reccomend this hotel.

We really enjoyed our short stay at the Romana Residence. The hotel itself is situated not far from the city centre and is decorated excellently. The breakfast also was far from a disappointment; a veritable feast! The staff were friendly, helpful and spoke very good English. Overall a brilliant hotel and an experience I would recommend to anyone.

This was the last night of our holiday in Italy, and as we were flying out of Linate the next day I wanted something fairly central and not too expensive. On balance, this hotel got mostly good reviews so I went ahead and booked.
I must say we weren't expecting much, but when we opened the door we found we had a large airy bedroom overlooking a garden, kitchen area with decent bathroom opposite and a large living dining room at the front. It was huge! OK it hasn't been updated since the seventies (very funky tiles in the bathroom) but it was clean and very comfortable. We didn't use the kitchen area apart from the fridge and were away too early the next morning to have the hotel breakfast (although they did offer to give us some food to take away), but it was good value and not too far from the centre.
