I rate the advice given on the Tripadvisor site very highly and it has helped me a great deal in the past. On this occasion, however, we discovered a completely different hotel to the one described by previous visitors. This place is a struggling 2 star setting itself out to be a 4 star and failing miserably. On arrival, none of our pre-advised requests were met; a low, smoking, room with no view was allocated when we had requested a high, non-smoking, larger room with double bed and a view. After requesting a move it only got us higher and failed to fulfill even our most basic expectations. Dirty room, noisy air-con, a trickle of water and singles pushed together together with a tired, dreary decor and furniture. Worse was to come! Breakfast was a nightmare, a stressed lady in charge created a harrased staff whose sole duty appeared to be clearing away, we were left stranded and unattended and everything ran out without being replenished until it was pointed out to them. The quality of the breakfast was poor, we just can't understand the earlier review comments about the 'great breakfast'. Customer care was atrocious. I witnessed a young German couple pleading for a move as they had a very noisy electrical buzzing in their room, they asked me to listen to it and I went with them as they returned to ask again for a move. The duty receptionist refused to help, despite there being other rooms available, telling them that they should 'speak to the manager' the next morning (presumably after a sleepless night). Why can't hotels get it right? it's not rocket science - a clean, comfortable room with a duty of care for the guests and a good, simple, tasty breakfast. All 'Managers' take note.
