Have always used Tripadvisor to help prepare ourselves on what to expect from the hotels booked and hope you find this review useful.

To give you some perspective we are a young couple in our early 20s and travel quite frequently.

Location and hotel: The hotel is situated near crocecca, a few stops on the metro from the main station (Centrale) in Milan, just remember to get the line 3 via 'Son Donata' and is situated about 100 metres down the road once you turn left out of the station. It is not right in the centre of the hustle and bustle, but only about 10-15 min walk to the Duomo as others have said. The area is fine to walk around at night. The lobby area is a touch dated for our liking but was still very nice!

Room:The room booked was a superior and was a good size and had lots of mirrors! The bed was comfortable and there was a shower and bath. The TV didnt show any english channes apart from CNN so dont expect much from that. With all 4*s there was a fridge.

Breakfast: We loved the breakfast!!! The breakfast here was extremely good and even better was included in the price... Scrambled and boiled eggs, cooked frankfurters and bacon, several types of juice, cereal, croissants and of course chocalate pie with Nutella! but also much more. It is served from 7am to 11am which is good for the early birds (and lazy ones!)

The only gripe I had with the hotel, and this is very minor, is the lack of internet in the room (there is internet in the lobby) but it is very useful to have internet in the room!

In summary, this hotel was clean, good size rooms, well located and had a fabulous breakfast.

Upon our arrival we were immediately shown the great European hospitality. From our check-in to departure we could not have been more pleased with their desire for our comfort and safety. The spacious rooms with comfortable furnishings and the cleanliness must be mentioned. Our hostess Rosi who greeted us each morning with a smiling buon giorno as we came to the breakfast buffet was such a great start to our days. The staff is multi-lingual for all of us english speaking travelers who have not mastered the Italian language enough for travel. Do not hesitate to book this great hotel with a wonderful location near the Crocetti subway stop on Line 3. You are in a short walkable distance from the major sites of Milano. Your staff will assist you with directions and suggestions for your sight-seeing peasure. There are not enough stars for our recommendation of this great hotel and staff.

This hotel was a real find for us. It was an affordable four star hotel not far from the historic heart of Milan.

The location was close to perfect. You can walk easily to the duomo, but if you don't feel like the 5-10 minute walk you can just hop on the tram. The stop is just metres away. Tram 16 and 24 both take you to the duomo. 16 takes you to the Last Supper. (Book online well in advance.)

What we also appreciated was the fact that the hotel has some character. The staff, the decor, the lifts, the other guests, the breakfasts, the nice breakfast room - you just get the feeling that you're in a nice unpretentious Italian hotel.

We felt the people working there were experienced pros -- professional, charming, always accommodating, and English speaking. One of us noticed and enjoyed the flower displays that were changed daily. A selection of newspapers were available in the morning. Free internet.

The Romana is probably not the chicest or most modern hotel in Milan, but the rooms were comfortable and large enough and certainly worth the price we paid.

The double beds had four pillows. CNN on the telly. A hair dryer. Large mirrors. The rooms that face the street have two sets of huge double windows that you can open way up. There were even shutters that you can lower to block the light. The bathrooms were not what you would call ultra-modern, but they were fine. Hot high-pressure shower.

It's called a "residence" and each room has a little kitchenette (without pots or dishes from what we could see), but it's just a hotel really. The breakfast was varied and even a little luxurious. For anglos, scrambled and boiled eggs and bacon were on offer, but we couldn't resist the various interesting pastries.

Getting there by car was a little confusing because of the one-way streets but we found it eventually. On weekends and holidays parking is nearby, but on weekdays expect to pay.

If you're looking for a nice, affordable hotel near the heart of the city, this is a good option.

The Romano Residence is a short walk (~15 mins) from some of the main tourist attractions (Duomo, Scala, the shopping district and Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II). It is situated in a quiet area within 2 mins walk from the nearest underground (Crocetta on the yellow line). The price was reasonable, room was well maintained (ours a suite with kitchen/sitting room, step machine and whirlpool bath) staff were friendly (directed us to some good local restaurants) and the breakfast service was also very good. Brilliant weekend stay, would love to be going again next weekend!
