Since me and my friends were travelling on a tight budget when we were looking for a hotel to stay in Milan our options were very limited!! Until we came upon Romana Residence a 4* hotel that had the prices of a 2*!!!! 70 euros for a double room (breakfast was included) was a very good deal since it was a 5 minute walk to the duomo and the metro station crocetta next to the hotel!!!.The rooms had a king size bed a tv set ,a fridge,air condition,even a kitchen!!! It was very clean and breakfast was so full of everything one needs to start the day!!The staff had a very good knowledge of english and they were kind enough to book us a mini van to take us to Malpensa airport at 05:00am.
Although Milan is much prettier on the north it is not worth paying lots of money and book a hotel there because Romana Residence offers you all that you expect from a 5*hotel and it is so so cheap!! if you decide to book this hotel don't hesitate to ask the staff about the weather(every day they give you details of the day's climate)and give you directions(bus routes,metro routes) to every part of the city you wish!!!
don't forget to visit Santa Maria Delle Grazie where Da Vinci's "Last Supper" is...... You will be astonished!!!! There is a bus 30 metres from the hotel that takes you there!!! Don't forget to prebook the tickets at least 2 months before your visit!!!

We found this hotel through Trip Advisor reviews and were not disappointed. We were pleasantly surprised with a spacious double room, which was very clean. The breakfast buffet was terrific, and it was within walking distance of restaurants, main piazza, and metro. The customer service here was superb. Not only did they provide tourist info above and beyond, they also fixed our luggage which we had stored in the lobby the day of departure. If back in Milan, we’d definitely stay here again.

My husband I stayed at the Hotel Romana Residence for three nights in Jan 07 in a standard double room on the first floor. Although our room was quite comfortable, I have to disagree with other reviewers in saying that we found our room quite small, with a bathroom that was a little more basic than we would have expected. On a positive note, the hotel was clean and well maintained, and all the staff we had contact with during our stay were very friendly and helpful.

As the cost of our room included breakfast, we wanted to take full advantage of this, as we planned on doing lots of sightseeing during our short stay in Milan, and we were not disappointed. The choice and quality of the breakfast offered at the Romana was excellent, and as soon as we sat down at our table we were asked if we would like a cappuccino (a nice personal touch).

One of the main reasons we chose the Romana was its central location. If you turn left after exiting the hotel , it is only a ten minute walk to the Duomo, and if you turn right, the nearest Metro stop (Croceta) is only a few hundred meters away. For anyone interested in catching a football match whilst in Milan (we went to see AC Milan v Reggina) the journey from the hotel to the San Siro takes less than an hour.

Overall, we had a very enjoyable mini break in Milan, and would recommend the Romana to anyone who is looking for a ‘middle of the road’ hotel in a central location.

Cons:
Had room on 7th floor - lift only goes as far as the 6th!.
Poor view from the room as had skylight-type windows only. Door would not stay closed unless you used key to lock it from inside.
Handheld shower only with sloped roof over bath. (My poor 6ft husband had a backache after each shower).
Decor in room is dated and although room was clean lots of old signs of wear and tear (blackening on wall over radiator, chipped paint, etc).
Bed was very soft and loud. King-size consisted of two small mattresses put together and made for uncomfortable situations.
No iron!

Pros:
Fantastic location!
Super-friendly staff! Very helpful and good with directions and tips about where to go.
Breakfast was really good (but get there early as things can run out!)
Free to leave luggage after check out.
Good value for money.

Biggest complaint is that we asked if any other rooms were available (see above Cons) and were told that because we paid a low rate (through hotels.com) we were allocated one of the worst rooms and could not change unless we upgraded to a junior suite for an additional 120 euros per night!

would recommend this hotel as even if you don't get one of the better rooms, the location and great breakfast set you up well for a break in Milan and the surrounding areas.
