I reviewed lots of hotels before deciding on the Gray, and after staying in many 5* hotels during a European trip this was the most disappointing. Being in the architecture field I was eager to see what the hotel had in store. All the reviews were accurate, it was calm, cool, chiq and dark. However, it was a little too 'cool', the room was very small (no plasma tv or Stark bath in a 300 euro/night room) the bathroom was very compact and the shower leaked badly (the hydro shower was very ineffective). Overall it was a really disappointing experience. It's one plus is that it is in a fantastic position, but I would recommend the Four Seasons for a better level of service and value for molto euros.

My and my wife stayed at the Gray for 1 night in May-04. The hotel is situated on a calm street just by the duomo.
I must say it was the coolest hotel I have ever stayed in. If you like top design, this is the place for you. We booked a standard room and we had a Phillipe Starck tub in our bedroom, flat-TV and everything was design in a minimalistic style.

Only reason why this is not a top grade (I honestly thing the 330 euro we paid was money well spend) is that the service was not 100%. It was adequate, but not what you can expect from a 5 star hotel.
For example there was a couple of times we found ourself waiting for the 2 receptionists to finish talking before helping us...
Nevertheless, if I can afford it, this is where I'm staying next time I'm in Milan.
