Owner description: Why visit a cemetery when you’re on vacation, you ask? The tombs at this Milan burial ground offer a great glimpse of Italian artistic styles from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

“Remarkable tombs and monuments”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2013

I visited this cemetery based on other reviews and it was much more impressive than I expected. The tombs are incredible mini-architectural masterpieces. There are so many incredible examples that you could spend a full day and not see half, but even a short visit is rewarded some very impressive tour.

“I had the place to myself”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 21, 2013

I enjoy photography and could have spent an entire day here. I went early and basically it was me, the florists and gardeners. The light was tricky for photography but there was plenty of subject matter with sculptures, monuments and crematoriums to see. There is so much history in this place.

“This should be on all tour itineraries.”

This cemetery puts Buenos Aires in a distant 2nd place. The crypts and sculptures are unbelievable. It is magnificent and huge. One is more impressive than the next.

“Breathtaking”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2013

Beautiful architecture all around! I think it's a must see if you're visiting Milan. You also get to see famous tombs, like that of Verdi, Manzoni and Campari.

“Breathtaking on first sighting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2013

The cemetery is fronted by an incredibly grand building which looks more like a palace and once through the entrance the first view is actually gob smacking! The monuments that greet you as you enter are magnificent - some really huge ones, and there are many examples of art deco and art nouveau architecture. The Italians certainly know how to say good bye to their departed and the whole cemetery shows you just how much wealth there is in the city. Unfortunately they had run out of maps but there are plans and what to look out for on boards all around. Just hope you don't get bitten by the insects as my sister did!
