After finding this hotel in the 'Rough Guide to Italy' (usually a very reliable source for finding good quality accommodation) I was looking forward to as the guide puts it 'a quietly elegant' hotel with 'individually decorated rooms and good quality service'. Our arrival there furthered this expectation as the reception area is lovely and the staff member who greeted us was polite and helpful. We decided to stay in a roof terrace room for two nights at the price they quoted us to start with of 200 Euros per night. The rooms are located a little way from reception in a seperate building, a nice touch as it feels like you are staying in real Milan with your own front door keys and elevator too. Although the room was clean and bright there was no sense of any 'individual decoration' and with one of two cupboard doors missing, a flimsy iron bedstead and quite a few broken plastic blinds in the room, I felt my expectations had not been met. The roof terrace was a good size although more of a balcony and joined with our neighbours 'terrace' too so there was no sense of privacy. Our first night there was nice and as far as location was concerned the hotel is brilliantly placed to walk right out into central Milan. We didn't take breakfast after seeing our neighbours were charged 10 euros for a couple of croissants and some tea. Instead we went out and ate twice as much in a lovely cafe around the corner for half the price. If you have already booked your stay here this is probably where you'll want to stop reading because our second nights stay at the hotel was a big let down. We awoke very early in the morning to find rain from a passing storm overhead leaking though the ceiling onto our bed and our clothes and also coming up through the floor, in both places leaving huge puddles. Reception were phoned quickly and although a maid came to put towels down on the floor, nothing else was done and no appology was offered. To make matters worse, when we had packed our wet items of clothing and when dawn broke so we could check out downstairs, the lady at the desk was so exceptionally rude that it almost spoilt our whole stay there. We were unhappy to pay the full 200 euros for half a nights sleep and a wet selection of clothing, not unjust if you ask me and not something I have ever needed to do at a hotel before. After thoroughly dismissing anything we had to say with her words 'I will not discount for a small puddle of water and some lost sleep' and without any hint of an appology we were so peeved with the hotel that we left and will not be going back anytime soon. Perhaps if someone with people-skills and a nice manner had greeted us that morning and appologised for the state of the room I could just laugh it off as certainly a real milanese experience but she was so unpleasant that it really impacted our stay there.

A mix up with the booking on the part of the hotel nearly left me on the street, but I was squeezed in - literally - to a small room round the back. Apparently, the rooms have themes - mine was origami, after a rather pathetic string of origami models hanging over the bed. The facilities are basic-with-character: clean, but outrageously expensive (€245 for a double en-suite), no non-Italian TV channels and a mattress so hard it would give you bruises if you used it for anything other than sleeping. Having said all that, the location is perfect (Duomo, castle and La Scala within ten minutes' walk), quiet (impressive for Milan) and the staff was charming (they promised me a larger room next time!). Make sure you book a larger room if you're staying here.

We have just returned from 6 weeks in Europe and had wonderful accommodations and experiences EXCEPT at this hotel. When we arrived we were tired after a day of hard travel. We were informed that the terraced room we had booked was unavailable because they were installing soundproof windows, but would be available the following day. We reluctantly agreed and were taken to a room that was "in transition", walls in primer paint with plaster patches, minimal furnishings with jackhammers going on both sides from the obvious renovations the hotel was undergoing. We discovered that night that the comforter on the bed was, in fact, only a sheet. We called down for a blanket, but were told that there might be an "emergency blanket available" 20 minutes later, a maid brought a small blanket for a twin bed (we had a queen). My husband & I dressed in pants, jackets and socks to spend a miserable night. When we went down for breakfast, we were told that since we didn't order it, there was none. The women behind the desk said ,"Oh did we forget to ask you if you wanted breakfast?" with mock sincerity. Of course the promised terrace room did not materialize. We were told that there was one available but it was not ours,,,,no way. We spent the morning finding another hotel. When we checked out the same desk woman demanded that we pay for the two nights we reserved since we did not give them 72 hours notice. When she discovered that we had already paid for another accommodation, she offered us a better room. Please don't encourage this type of treatment by staying at this hotel.

Just got back from 2 nights there and can't believe we actually paid more than EUR300 for a room there, which scarcely rated over the quality of a youth hostel. Web site is entirely misleading. Positive reviews in leading travel magazines must be massively out of date. Room was in a dingy building, a block away from the reception area. It featured peeling paint, bathroom with strong mold smell and almost no lighting (perhaps a blessing). WiFi was not functional. Staff was sweet but largely ineffective. Location was fine, but there seem to be lots of others at similar rates in the are who can actually provide some services. Kicking myself for actually falling for this. Can't imagine the circumstance where I would recommend that anyone stay here.
