“90s style hotel with good location, but room for improvement in client management”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2013

The hotel is situated 5 minute walk from Piazza del Duomo and the Scala, most city sights are accessible on foot. Interior design reminded us the early 90s (kind of funny), still the room was clean, comfortable, and also had a massage tub (in the deluxe room). Its drawback was however, in our experience, the indifferent and neglectful staff. We were especially disappointed by how the hotel handled the situation when we reported the non-functioning TV (the lady in charge on Saturday evening, 25 May). At that time, we felt like as if we were treated in a cheap motel in the middle of nowhere. N.b.: you cannot use plastic under a certain amount of money (e.g. paying the city tax) - be aware of that.

I haven't been to Milano for years (many!), therefore I haven't been to the Hotel Star for years, and I must admit that I was not sure whether I would appreciate it as much as in the past. Yes, I did. You cannot beat the excellent location and Vittoria is still at the reception as helpful and as effcient as before. It was a pleasure to be there again.

Room Tip: Not on the first floor, the rooms are relatively dark

We needed a smoke free hotel, close to Cadorna to get an early Malpensa Express train. This hotel was perfect for that. The 2 women who were at the front desk were very pleasant and helped us graciously with all of our questions. Location is great - near the Duomo, Scala and Brera neighborhood.

For those sensitive to noise, we heard the people above us walking and banging a lot. Although the hotel is around the corner from the tram, we would hear the rumble every 5 minutes. That did not disrupt our sleep, although the motorcycles zipping by could be annoying. Their windows are not sound proofed.

Room was of nice size, clean and had a hot tub in the shower. The only issue that concerned us is that we requested a 5am wake up call. Luckily, I had gotten up at 4:50 by the sound of a motorcycle. At 5:15 I called the front desk and told the gentlemen we had a 5:00am wake up call to see what had happened. His response to me was that he had 3 clocks by his desk that all had different times (each before 5am). inexcusable. Plus I didn't believe him.

We left early so cannot comment on their breakfast that was included in the price.

I was travelling to Milan alone and wanted to be right near everything so I wouldn't have to spend loads of time wandering back to my hotel every evening. The bed was comfortable, the staff unbelievably friendly and helpful, not just to me but to the other guests I overheard dealing with them. The breakfast was good, and as I dont do sweet things for breakfast, it was great to have freshly made scrambled egg with lovely hams served, as well as the croissants etc that most guests prefer. The wifi was free and fast, which for a traveller who likes to keep in contact with business back home, it was much appreciated. The price was reasonable and I would stay there again in a jiffy, and Milan was an incredibly friendly, easy city to be alone in!

Excellent location, next to the center of the city, close to everywhere, (subway, station, attractions, ...). Clean. Good breakfast for this type of hotel. Polite personnel.

Small room, which is not renovated like the advertisement, no nice animal paintings. Smelling at the bathroom, which disappeared the second day. Slow internet.

The location doesn't get any better than this! It is equally within walking distance of the Duomo, La Scala, Sforefzi (spelling) castle, and the beautiful old shopping arcade near the Duomo. We are older, and not able to walk long distances, but even we could manage these walks! We only needed the Metro 1 day, and that was easy enough even for non-Italian speakers. Stay here if location is important to you.

Street noise from traffic was a problem until about 11-12 pm, then it quieted nicely, until morning rush hour.

Breakfast was ordinary fare, not exciting but generous enough to fill you up for many hours. Staff was always pleasant and very helpful.

Elevator very small - my wheelchair barely fit, and getting a 2nd person next to me was quite a feat of maneuvering!

Although Milan hotels are the most expensive hotels in Europe, Hotel Stars price is reasonable because of the location. La Scala theatre, Castle Sforza, Duomo, etc. only five minutes walk. A little bit old furniture. Breakfast was delicious, especially coffee but not much kind. There is no slippers in the room.
