“old fashion charm of the best kind”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2013

near the train station in Milano, but with no feeling of a "train station area" - pleasant to walk at night to a good restaurant nearby, just near the subway station, and with an excellent parking arrangement for those coming by car.
And once you get there - by train, car or subway - you are welcomed in a place that has a dignified sense of "old fashioned". The rooms are refurbished (we were in a superior room), pleasant on the eye, very comfortable, not big - but nice to be in.
What makes this *more* (!) than just a good hotel - the great staff who is helpful in every way they can (starting from the reservations process and then with any question on the way); the extraordinary breakfast, the free soft drinks in the room, the 24/7 coffee in the lobby...
it just feels like they are thinking all the time - what can make our guests even happier...
wouldn't think of any better place in Milano for my future visit

Room Tip: the superior rooms cost a bit more, but well worth the money.

We were traveling with our son, daughter-in-law and two grandchildren, ages 3 and 5. The Berna was very welcoming and put us across the hall from the kids, who had a larger room to accommodate the family. We can only add our "dittos" to the comments about breakfast at The Berna -- fabulous offerings that more than satisfied our group with ages ranging from 3 to 77. From the hotel it's an easy tram or subway ride to the Duomo and city center, and a not-too-long walk to a huge park with plenty of playgrounds and the city's natural history museum. The desk staff was also great about recommending restaurants and making dinner reservations for us -- at delicious local places. We would definitely stay here again.

This was our first time in Milan & we had no recommendations on where to stay but chose this hotel partly because of its proximity to the train station.not only did we arrive/depart by train from the airport, we were also hiring a car from the train station hence it made this hotel very convenient for us. Staff were very helpful, buffet breakfast was exceptional, our superior room on the 5th floor was very comfortable. Overall the hotel was good value. If you don,t require proximity to the train station then it would probably be preferrable to stay closer to the Duomo, and you would probably have to pay more.

This last visit was my fifth or sixth time at the Berna. For location, service and price, there's no better place. The level of service is really over the top: your choice of pillows, free non-alcoholic mini-bar, full and generous breakfast buffet, and a front desk staffed in such a way that lines are a rarity.
The rooms are small and beautifully furnished. Ours seemed newly refurbished. There is little closet space and no drawers. Very clean.
My only beef, and this is a small thing, is that three times we asked for help with meal reservations each time with different requirements. Three different desk guys gave us the card for the same place--even though it was far from what we were asking for. The first two times we found other places that worked for us, and finally on that third recommendation, we tried Mama Rosa's. I think we wouldn't have been so miffed if Mama Rosa's was special or a great deal or really good food. It is none of that--it's filled with tourists, the service is fine, but the food is not and the prices are very high for what you get. Why does the Berna do this?
So, if you stay at the Berna, figure out your own dinner plans--we loved the Ristorante Piazza Repubblica. Prices are good, service is amazing and it's very convenient.
If you eat a gluten free diet, tell them either before you arrive or when you check in and they will shower you with wonderful goodies at breakfast--probably more than you can eat!

Great service....sumptuous breakfast (included in the package). At 179 Euro per night... this worked out to be cheaper than comparable hotels in the vicinity. We stayed 1 night at the Garda hotel, next door for 1 night...and then shifted to Berna. Garda was below average at 120 Euro...mosquitos in the room, and aircon issues ...it gets very hot in Jun. Rooms are small, though.

We recently stayed at Hotel Berna at the conclusion of our 4 week Italian holiday. We chose this hotel based on Tripadvisor reviews, and also the close proximity to the train station. What a good choice!!! Upon arrival until our final departure, the staff were exceptional - so friendly and helpful. I would say that breakfast each day was great - perfect selection of food and the staff in the breakfast room made it so enjoyable. Our room, on the first floor next to the lift and fronting the street was exceptional. This hotel did not disappoint and provided an excellent base for 3 days in Milan. While it was a decent walk to the main centre - there was always something to look at and while public transport was available - we enjoyed the walk. The recommendations for nearby restaurants were appreciated, and in fact we went twice to Settembrini 18.

Thanks to all other reviewers for the recommendation to this great hotel.

This hotel has it all. Perfect location, staff and service. I could not fault our stay in any way and would not hesitate to recommend Hotel Berna to anyone. The staff were always pleasant and could not do enough for you and the breakfast was more than you could ask for.
