“Grand Hotel - Great location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2012

We stayed at this hotel for a convention. The hotel is walking distance from the MiCo convention Center and the orange metro line and 4 stops from the Duomo.

The hotel itself is spectacular with a beautiful lobby and bar area. The whole main area and meeting rooms is grand with a very luxurious look.

The buffet was amazing with lots of different offers from made to order eggs and omelettes to freshly baked pastries and fruits to sparkling wine.

The lobby bar was also very nice and we got really good service from Gabriele who was friendly and helpful. We often met our friend there for a few beverages.

The room however was a different story. Not sure if all the rooms were that way but ours was small and not at all convenient. There was a HUGE pillar in the centre of the room and we constantly had to skirt around it to move in the room.

The shower was basically a drain in the middle of the bathroom with a curtain that hung from the shower head. We had to do some gymnastics to get to close the curtain and take a shower without flooding the whole room. The floor was marble and very slippery hence our concern about this type of shower.

In the room nothing worked. The TV did not work, the safe did not work and the High Speed internet did not work. Some co-workers complained that when it did work, the speed was extremely slow. This sounds very strange from a hotel that is primarily catering to business people attending conventions.

Go for a Pizza the restaurant across the street!

Room Tip: Ask to see your room before accepting.

Its very 1970's but then again its the same as most of the hotels in this area and this appears to be one of the better ones.
The rooms are spacious but with not enough light for my liking. The restaurant is very good however. Gym very small. I didnt use it in the end.

Its really a convenient place to stay if on business and attending a conference. If you are looking to stay as a tourist i would definitely stay closer to town as its around a 15 minute taxi ride to Duomo

Dear babyvic

Thank you for sharing with us your feelings about the experience at Meliá Milano. I'm sorry that your stay has not been up to your expectations. The hotel, situated in a strategic location in the area of the FieramilanoCity it is just a few minutes ride on the Milan metro from both the new trade fair centre in Rho for business reason and the city centre for shopping time. For your next pleasant breaks I suggest you try our new “Diabolik Experience Room” created to celebrate the 50th Annivesary of the famous Italian comic: Diabolik. We hope to see you soon at Meliá Milano.

The hotel was comfortable, within ealking distance of the main conference center and easy access to the lotto metro. The breakfast was very good and overall facilities and service was good. If I attend another conference on this side of Milan, I would stay here again.

The Melia Milano is a Holliday Inn that looks unimpressive on the outside but is quite beautiful inside. Excellent foyer with quality marble floors. Check-in easy. Friendly bar staff. Good breakfast. Very nice room with amenities including a robe, pull out mirror in the bathroom, slippers, lovely linens. A short walk to subway and 10 minute walk to Convention Centre MIlanocity. It was easy to get to the Duomo from here.

Room Tip: Try to get a room away from the street--there was noise from partiers.

Dear Stephanae K

Thank you for sharing with us your feelings about the experience at Meliá Milano. The hotel was built in 2001 on the area once occupied by the former Alemagna cake factory, which had invented the typical Christmas cake Panettone. The original building dates back to the Forty’s, when the experienced milanese baker Gioacchino Alemagna opened the factory and the building was even bombed during World War II. We were delighted to read your comments and to see that our property was perfect for your business stay. We very much look forward to welcoming you back on many future occasions.

Even though Melia is a five stat hotel, it looks very old and old fashioned. It definetely needs renovation.
The hotel is far from the city's historic centre but the Metro is really close, like 2 minutes walking!
The good part about it is that the price is really tempting!

Dear AngRzk

Thank you for sharing with us your feelings about the experience at Meliá Milano. The Meliá Milano is situated with in touching distance of the beating heart of Milan’s financial district, yet at the same time well away from the chaotic traffic of the big city. Located in the Fieramilanocity district, it is just a few minutes ride on the Milan metro from both the new trade fair centre in Rho and the city centre. The hotel’s five-star luxury is clearly evident in every little detail and makes it a inique, reserved, and relaxing ambiente where the staff will take care of everything. Thanks for your review and we very much look forward to welcoming you back on many future occasions.

We booked with Galahotels at a special rate of 80 euro/night (double room with king side bed - bed and breakfast), but the city tax was not included (another 5 euro per night per person).
Big, clean rooms, good staff, early check-in if the rooms are available and THE BEST BREAKFAST YOU CAN GET IN ITALY!!! I think that if we were supposed to eat somwhere else what they offered (and how they offered), it would have cost us more than 20 euro per person/day.
Milan? Disappointing! Sorry to say so, but it is true.
For those who do not have a car and have an early flight: DO NOT RELY ON METRO! THE METRO OPENS AT 6 O'CLOCK IN THE MORNING, not at 5 as usual! We lost the terravision transfer from central station because of this, so pay attention!

Room Tip: Pay attention that there are a few rooms that have inside view and are a bit smaller.

Next time I will be in Milan I will definitely stay again in this hotel. Staff are friendly and helpful, rooms (even the standard ones) are very comfortable, location is great, price for the night is acceptable (compared with other hotels) and breakfast is terrific. The hotel is really very close to the underground station - about 150m (only 8 stops to Duomo). The breakfast buffet is the best I have seen in any hotel so far in terms of quantity and variety of food and drinks. The only negative thing is lack of free wifi. The hotel offers only one hour of free wifi.

Dear Michal J

Thank you for sharing with us your experience at Meliá Milano. We were delighted to read your comments and to see that our property was perfect for your stay. Luckily the hotel, located in touch a Lotto’s subways stop, it is just a few minutes ride on the Milan metro from both the new trade fair centre in Rho for business reason and the city centre for shopping time. Eventually we catch the opportunity to say that Meliá Hotels International is working to offer soon a better Wi-Fi connection in all our Hotels.
