A point to note it that we actually walk from the central station to the hotel (armed with a map and it took us approx 50 minutes) A taxi would cost approx 13 euros including tip.
Once you are at the hotel it is only a 10 minutes walk to the Duomo and there is a very handy Carrefour Express a minute down the road from the hotel.
Check in was efficient and the slight miss communication by our hotel agent was quickly rectified by the hotel without any fuss (it wasn't there fault) and I believe they upgraded us and didn't fuss or make a point about it.
Reception is first class. They really make you feel that they want you to have an enjoyable stay and provide you with a map of the area too.
Our rooms were spacious with beautiful bathrooms that reflect those seen in the photographs.
The bed was actually 2 twin beds clipped together so was very large. The bath could seat 2 people, there was a decent sized shower (though I think after use it caused some sort of drainage smell to permeate the room from then onwards) two basins, bidet and toilet. Toiletries included were shower gel, bath foam and body lotion, 2 shower caps, a cleansing and toning satchet, cotton buds, cotton wool, soap and bathrobe and slippers.
Each evening at around 6pm there was a knock on the door and housekeeping left 2 chocolates. Very nice touch.
Breakfast on the 3rd floor was a delight with plenty of choice and, in our case, no wait for a table. Hot items included mini sausages, bacon, eggs. Other items included green leaves, tomatoes, sweetcorn, marinated salmon, cheeses, hams, bread, pastries, fresh fruit, cakes, cereal, plain yoghurt, fruit juice (and tea and coffee which was ordered and brought to your table).
Downstair in the lobby is a small bar area for those wanting an evening drink (open til 1am) and free wifi is available in the lobby though this was tempermental.
We really had no room for any complaints. In fact the only thing that we found a slight irration was not having tea and coffee making facilities in our rooms. We were discussing this fact in the lift one day and low and behold the next time we went into the room a kettle and tea and coffee (NO MILK) had magically appeared. (We really thought the lift had been bugged!! or that reception had started to read your minds!)
Uptown Palace is a wonderful place to stay, beautifully decorated, upmarket and further enhanced by its wonderful staff.
