We stayed at the Hotel Trentina a very short walk away, and wanted to eat locally in the evenings.
Strolling around the block we came across this place, and although the outside didn't look very impressive, no outside tables or fancy plants in pots, the menu looked fine, and it seemed to be pretty full. So we went in. The place seemes to be run by Chinese, and the inside decor does rather look like a typical Chinese Restaurant. You are directed to either the left side, or the right side dining rooms. Both have the same menus, perhaps the left side is slightly more formal.
The menu is very Italian in structure and contents and covers the full gamut of fish, meat, pasta and pizzas. Wine is available by carafe by the litre, half or quarter - and is very drinkable and great value - 2 euro for 1/4, 6 euro for a litre! They also have a short range of wines by the bottle. The menu just lists the items and with another line with the English translation. None of the waitresses seem to speak any English but are efficient and willing.
There are some quirks, there were some half bottles of wine on the counter, not included in the list, and the carafes are included in the white wine section, and I failed to get the waitress to serve me a red carafe, although I later saw them on other tables.
Our food on the first night was excellent, so we went again the next night. Some highlights - a delicate deep fried vegetable starter, a fine pasta & tomato dish, and a Fruits of the Sea risotto for mains. The cheese board was also good.
The place is certainly very popular, mostly for local people. The beauty of this place is that you could just have a pasta dish or pizza and carafe of wine for a very cheap meal, or have a longer meal with 3 courses - again for a very good value dinner.
We also had a diner at the nearby "Hot Meeting" restaurant that was another bustling local venue. That was also good, more Italian and fancier in (decor) feel.
