“very good experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2012

The hotel staff was very friendly. They welcomed us and our dog with a smile and carried our bags from the car to our room. The room was clean and cosy. The shower in the bathroom was really nice, like a waterfall! The bed was comfortable and the sheats really clean. Breakfast on the 5th floor was delicious. Fruit, eggs, ham, cheese, fresh juice, coffee,... all very nice products. Even when you go by closing hours, there is lots to choose from. After checking out we asked if we could leave our car there for a couple of hours, this was not a problem at all. As I said, the hotel staff is really friendly and helpful. The subway is at 5 minutes walking from the hotel. From there on you can go everywhere in Milan. We didn't stay in the neighbourhood of the hotel, it's far to easy to take the subway and go to the exciting centre of Milan. Renting a room in the centre would have cost us much more than just outside the city centre and it is calm. When we return to Milan we'll stay in this hotel again!

The Rubens is located in a great location with metro links to the centre of Milan and is within walking distance of the San Siro stadium. We had a junior suit which had classical Italian decor, the en-suit was spacious and supplied well with toiletries. The bed was very comfortable and I actually had a great night sleep.....there is also a mini bar in your room but beware of the prices....here is a supermarket across the road from the hotel where I might suggest you purchase any snacks or drinks you may need for you late night nibbles. The breakfast was a typical continental but had a great variety of cheeses and hams, here is also hot sausage and powdered egg....you can defiantly have a good fill before you days adventure. The restaurant is located on the 5th look with a great view and carries on the classical decor theme. We found the staff very helpful and are English speaking which was a great benefit. The batman was very helpful and even put on English football for us when asked. A previous comment mentions the tourist tax which is 4 Euros per. Person per night....this is common within European hotels and must be accounted for when booking. The local area has a good selection o restaurants , cafes and the dreaded kebab shop...I will definitely revisit this otel on my next trip to Milan...Cio

Reception staff very helpful and friendly, although one of them was a bit 'sharp' in his tone, but helpful all the same. Beautiful interior, clean and modern, with a somewhat classical theme.
Room was clean and comfortable, bathroom was well equipped and also clean. Bed was comfortable, and I got a good night's sleep.
Breakfast on the 5th floor was very nice and the service was good. Great views.
The hotel has a free car park at the rear - you need to turn into the hotel's main entrance and drive round (we drove round the block a couple of times trying to find it as it's not signposted). Surrounding area seems like it could be a bit dodgy at night, so we didn't venture too far. Overall I was satisfied with this hotel.

We booked through laterooms. Fortunately we had a printed copy of the confirmation slip with us. When we went to check out, the hotel staff told me that laterooms prices don't include their new city tax (which is not so new, they've had 3 months now to get off their lazy backside and update prices on web sites). They asked us to pay a total price that was about 16 EUR more than the rate I had booked. I showed them the confirmation page from the online booking where it says `Total cost of stay' in big bold letters at the bottom and insisted I would not pay one cent more. Eventually when I told them I would leave without any payment on my card, they changed the price on the card machine very quickly and allowed me to pay the correct amount only. I would never go back to a hotel that puts pressure on me to pay extra money when checking out, and would never encourage anyone else to do so. These tax tricks are just extremely shoddy and a gross injustice to other hotels who are showing total rates on the internet. The bathrooms have doors that don't close properly, and they have various transparent sections in the glass, some people travelling with a partner will find this less than romantic as you can see and hear more than you might normally be comfortable with. Otherwise, the standard of the property is quite reasonable for the price we paid (about 90 euro/night) and is quite OK for a single business traveler, so it is even more disappointing that they let themselves down with these attempts to extract more money than the agreed rate.

Room Tip: The bathrooms have doors that don't close properly, and they have various transparent sections i...

Dear Sir, the city tax has been introduced on 1st of september 2012 . It appears that, despite our information to our Partners, not all of them did inform about the existence of this new city tax on the confirmation form. All other on line travel agents state that 'eventual city tax is not included'. This means that the fault is not ours.
It is completely false that we try to get extra money upon check out. Luckily, everyone can understand our behaviour and everyone can read the information from City Hall which is availbale in every reception desk. By the way, we cannot force the Guest to pay; the City Hall is committed to collect the payment in case of refusal to pay it.
Best regards,

Stayed here for 3 nights. Well appointed rooms with modern bathroom. Spotlessly clean.
All staff were very courteous and spoke English. Breakfast was plentiful.
Location was just perfect as only a short walk to Centre and Metro 200M away.
Our room faced busy street so there was some traffic noise - though no major problem for us.
I would like to recommend local restaurant just around the corner. Great meals and reasonably priced, not to mention the atmosphere. Place was packed by locals - Gemelli Diversi.

The reception was classy. The concierge very helpful and polite, as was the porter.

The room was very tastefully decorated and very clean. The bed was nice and firm but not hard. The double-glazing kept out the traffic noise.

The bathroom was great with an excellent shower and a deep whirlpool bath.

We only ate breakfast in the restaurant as we were out and about for the other mealtimes (the concierge recommended an excellent restaurant: Trotters, a short walk away). The restaurant was very nice with a great view to the west from the huge fifth floor window.

The breakfast was a really good continental, with all the usuals: cold meats, bread sausages, fruit, croisants etc.
