“Classy, comfortable hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2012

My family of four stayed in two rooms at this hotel and were very satisfied. The rooms were clean, spacious and quiet. The front desk is well staffed and very helpful. Breakfast was ample and fresh. Wifi is free, fast and easy to access(hard t find in Italy). The hotel is located close to the train station and close to the easy to use Milan underground. We visited for three days in August. A time when many things are closed in Milan. My only criticism of the hotel is that like many of the restaurants in the area of the hotel, the hotel restaurant was closed for two weeks. It was difficult to find a nice place to eat in the area, on our last night in Milan.
Other wise this is a very nice hotel. We would stay there again.

We booked a 3 night stay in Milan and selected the Doria Grand Hotel due to the 4* rating and the low price (£68 per night for a double room, breakfast included). The airport shuttle bus dropped us off at the Central FS station. This was only 300 metres from the hotel but make sure you get a map of the city before you go or at the station. On arrival at the hotel we were greeted very nicely and the staff were extremely knowledgeable and attentive. The room was well appointed and the bed comfortable but be aware that there is no tea or coffee making facilities. Room service is 24 hours and very efficient. The decor throughout the hotel is predominantly wood and it looked well finished and tastefully arranged. All the rooms are soundproofed and we didn't hear anything from any of the other rooms. The Metro is about 100 metres from the front of the hotel and this provides a really efficient means of transport to any of the attractions in the city. If I was returning to Milan I would not hesitate to book here again. Be aware that in August a lot of the Milanese take their holidays and a lot of restaurants and shops are closed, but this has the advantage of making the centre less crowded and the main attractions are still open.

Reception staff were all very nice and helpful and spoke very good English.
The room was soundproofed, very clean and very comfortable. The minibar was really cheap.
The shower was very powerful, lovely! Complementary toiletries and shower hat provided.
Breakfast buffet was plentiful - scrambled egg, bacon, sausage, cold meats and cheeses, cereals, pastries, cakes, rolls etc. When breakfast was busy, the staff got a bit agitated when people called them over to request coffee, this was the only thing that disappointed me about the hotel - the breakfast staff attitude.
The location was really convenient for Grand Central Station and 2 nearby Metro stations.
This was a lovely hotel and I would definitely stay again if I return.

The hotel was in a great location, only 2-5 mins walk to the nearest metro station and many restaurants in the local area. The room was clean and the beds were comfortable. The rooms were indeed sound proof and the bathroom was big with a bathtub and great water pressure. Sony TV, mini bar, good WiFi which was free - 16 hrs to use.

The reception service was ok, depending who was at the reception, but some were very helpful. The nice receptionist was happy to give me directions to lake Como and gave me a free map. He was very nice and help.

Breakfast had a great variety: eggs, bacon, sausages, toast, baguettes, croissants, cereal, ham, cheese, yoghurt, fruit. The waiters were very friendly and attentive.
Was very happy with the stay.

I stayed here on a trip through Italy and the Grand Doria is an absolutely fine, large traditional hotel that is immaculate and welcoming. I booked via internet and that was all fine. This is a good quiet hotel only minutes from the central train station and takes about 7 minutes on foot and 2 mins in a cab. Breakfast was included and again perfectly adequate start to the day, can order other cooked options. Room was comfortable, large bathroom, all marble and great hot water! Room has mini fridge, tv with English channels and very good airconditioning. Felt very safe and one nice touch is you get a proper big brass key with a tassel, no modern credit card swipe card. Very cool and it matches thedecor too. Can highly recommend for the solo traveller, nice to come back to after a long day.

This is a four star hotel. Sure it looks modern. The room is spacious. But wait , wait for it. The bathroom sucks!!! Sure it's spacious but the drain is CLOGGED. While taking a shower, the water reached up almost to my knees . it's not draining! So we called the front desk to report the draining problem. Someone came up to check and since it was around 9 or 10 pm , they said they will send someone the next day, what time I don't know. IT was dangerous first of all bec you could slip and fall. So my husband took a risk using the shower. Hoping they will send someone first thing in the morning to fix the clogged drain, unfortunately they didn't. My daughter suffered the same experience. It was an overnight stay but definitely unenjoyable and uncomfortable stay. So the first thing you do is always inspect the bathroom to see if it's draining properly. All the hotels that we booked had clogged drains but this is the WORST!!!

I stayed one night before leaving for a conference in another place, and another night prior to returning home. This hotel really does have have four star quality: a special place that makes you feel special. Its approach is traditional, with beautiful rooms: subdued colours for the carpets and wallpaper. The furniture is dark wood and every surface is marble! The bathroom is also in the same marble. Each room has a safe, and clear instructions on how to program it yourself. The wifi was also excellent. The staff were efficient and friendly, and the breakfast was good too. I booked in advance through Octopus Travel, and through this had an incredibly reasonable deal.

Room Tip: If arriving at Milan Central station with one case, there's no need for a taxi, as it's only...
