“WARN OUT”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 23, 2013

I put up with this hotel in September 2012. The hotel was O.K . However, after half a year I got a fine from the Milan Municipality penalizing 100 euros for entering the C area of the hotel with my car. No one informed us about the fee and after thorough investigation we understood that non residents have to pay a fee when entering the area. On top of that the rental car company Budget delivered our personal details to the Municipality charging us 40 euros for their mutual arrangement. Therefore, reconsider.

I only stayed here for one night with my brother in a twine room which turned out to be an attic style room and rather comfortable. The bathroom was a good size and the beds were comfortable with enough space for 2 large suitcases.

We couldn't get any wifi connection at first but the hotel helped us with that which was good.

Breakfast only starts at 7.30am and unfortunately we had to depart before that so we missed out.

The location is good and while a 15/20 minute walk from the main sights of Milan, offers a number of nice restaurants and bars on a canal.

Overall, a nice, clean and comfortable hotel.

We spent three nights at Maison Borella at the end of March 2013, we are familiar with Milan and the navigli, although this was our first time at this hotel.

Our room was at the rear of the hotel. It was quite small with a minimal about of hanging space for our clothes. It appears that the rear part of the hotel is constructed in cast concrete which, I can tell you, is quite good at conducting sound from other rooms and from the walkway outside. This wasn't a big problem, just that we were often aware that we weren't the only people in the hotel. How to operate the air conditioning system was a complete mystery (as is the case with every other hotel in Italy that we have ever stayed in). When we arrived we found that a bulb had blown in one of the bedside lights, this was fixed immediately when requested. The room was very clean with a comfortable bed and a really good shower.

For breakfast there was a wide selection of food and we found it most enjoyable and relaxing.

The staff were polite, helpful and friendly, I would stay here again for sure.

Room Tip: As they tell you, front rooms will be noisy at night as all the bars/ restaurant goers stand outside...

The staff were very friendly, charming and helpful and made us feel most welcome. The decor of the hotel is delightful and our room, facing the canal, was very comfortable - this is a lovely hotel, located in a lively area, surrounded by lots of great bars and restaurants, and I have no issue with the price.

However, a couple a small things irritated me me: in an age when almost all travellers need Internet access, there is no excuse for the slow Internet service we experienced, iPads in hand researching our trip; breakfast was okay, but not amazing. For €195 a night I expect freshly squeezed orange juice not like warm UHT juice. The ham was no different to that which can be found in any British supermarket, and in Italy I would expect an array of delicious cured meats.

However, all this is easily rectified with a few oranges, some parma ham and extra band width. it should certainly not deter you from staying here - we did share our feedback with them and it is lovely.

Great hotel in great area, right by the naviglio canal. it is located in a pdestrian street but very close to a road, so you don't have to walk much at all with yoour luggage. The area is great for going out at night whether ot a restaurant, pub or night club. Still it is very safe. Clean and confortable rooms with modern amenities. Surprinsingly large rooms, actually. Just be careful during the cold season when you step out of your room as you get straight into an open-air patio (otherwise very pleasant). The staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast (included in the rate) is good, but not as great as the milanese can make it.

Room Tip: Try to pick a room with a view of the canal.

The Maison Borella is a very elegant, tastefully decorated, smooth, modern and well located Hotel! The crew was very friendly, uncomplicated and helpful. We were surprised with an upgrade which took us to a very nice room on the second floor with canal view. The room was very clean and elegant. We also enjoyed the breakfast, which was lovingly prepared and varied. We had a great stay, we will come back!

First of all the hotel-chic, boutique & well presented if not a little stuffy.

The location. Initially I thought my sat nav had misread when it took us to this area of, well lets be honest, slums, especially given the positive write ups for location given on here.
The "canal" was empty-well, aside from discarded litter, bikes and a variety of other types of human flotsam and jetsam.
The canal is quite frankly a concrete lined drainage ditch and had I paid the premium for a "canal view" I would've been mortified.

Location wise, the hotel is probably 100 yards or so the wrong side of a clear division between respectability & slum although it is well placed for walking into the centre.
Whilst one can appreciate the positivity the owners are trying to give to this "up and coming area" (I should have seen what was coming given the number of times that phrase is mentioned in connection with the district) it is at the moment a shining light in a very run down and delapidated area.
