“very nice !!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 1, 2013

Great hotel in great area, right by the naviglio canal. it is located in a pdestrian street but very close to a road, so you don't have to walk much at all with yoour luggage. The area is great for going out at night whether ot a restaurant, pub or night club. Still it is very safe. Clean and confortable rooms with modern amenities. Surprinsingly large rooms, actually. Just be careful during the cold season when you step out of your room as you get straight into an open-air patio (otherwise very pleasant). The staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast (included in the rate) is good, but not as great as the milanese can make it.

Room Tip: Try to pick a room with a view of the canal.

The Maison Borella is a very elegant, tastefully decorated, smooth, modern and well located Hotel! The crew was very friendly, uncomplicated and helpful. We were surprised with an upgrade which took us to a very nice room on the second floor with canal view. The room was very clean and elegant. We also enjoyed the breakfast, which was lovingly prepared and varied. We had a great stay, we will come back!

First of all the hotel-chic, boutique & well presented if not a little stuffy.

The location. Initially I thought my sat nav had misread when it took us to this area of, well lets be honest, slums, especially given the positive write ups for location given on here.
The "canal" was empty-well, aside from discarded litter, bikes and a variety of other types of human flotsam and jetsam.
The canal is quite frankly a concrete lined drainage ditch and had I paid the premium for a "canal view" I would've been mortified.

Location wise, the hotel is probably 100 yards or so the wrong side of a clear division between respectability & slum although it is well placed for walking into the centre.
Whilst one can appreciate the positivity the owners are trying to give to this "up and coming area" (I should have seen what was coming given the number of times that phrase is mentioned in connection with the district) it is at the moment a shining light in a very run down and delapidated area.

Stayed for 3 nights and enjoyed ourselves immensly. Beautifully converted original Italian courtyard house, we had a canal view room which is well worth the extra bit of cash. Great room with modern bathroom with an excellent shower. The area (Navigli) is buzzing at night times with a mix of locals and alot of tourists and very easy to get to all the other areas of Milan.
Would have been nice to have coffee facilities in the room and maybe one news chanel in english but seriously - just get out the door!
Milan is stunning and we highly recommend getting up to lake Como as well as a day trip - just jaw dropping.

Room Tip: Canal view

Beautiful boutique hotel... the room was very comfortable and well appointed, and the service was outstanding. The hotel staff was very helpful, both with directions and with a special request. The breakfast buffet "included in the rate" was excellent, fresh pastries, fruit, eggs, among other choices. The restaurant next door was outstanding. It's well located not only to see the sights (2 blks from Metro, 15 minute walk to the Duomo) but it's also quiet b/c no cars are on the street in front at night.

Stayed here with my wife in September for 1 night. The hotel is only opened a short time,it is designed and decorated beautifully and is in a wonderful location right on the canal. There are many restaurants and bars along the canal, and it is a lovely area for a stroll. No traffic is allowed after 3pm which makes it a very pedestrian friendly area. There is very easy access to the center (duomo)by the no,3 tram, and also easy access to the train to Malpensa airport bythe local metro station. The hotel staff are very friendly and helpful. This is a real oasis in a busy city and we would certainly return again.

Ditto to all previous 5 star comments. Everything about this hotel is perfect, from the cleanliness, the garden courtyard, the breakfast that's included, the location, the dependable wifi, and the amazing, friendly and helpful staff. We will be returning to Milan next summer and staying at Maison Borella for sure!
