“Great alternative to expensive hotels in central Milan...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2012

Most of the reviews are fairly correct in their estimations & the pics on other reviews & the hotel web site are true. We stayed 4 nights to be within walking distance of the sights we wanted to see & this hotel definitely provides that. Not a lot of restaurants close enough to walk to if you've already had a full day of walking & want several choices of a nice ristorante or trattoria that's close by. The most recommended (and closest) ristorante opens at 7 & often has large tour groups, so it can get very loud at times. Some of the hotel desk staff are not too well informed about restaurant choices as 1 night we searched for 2 separate restaurants. 1 had gone out of business & was an entirely different restaurant serving breakfast & lunch only, & the other 1 we never could find based on her directions. All in all, we had a pleasant stay, very comfortable bed & very quiet if you keep the windows closed. Beware that the A/C will not work if the outside temp is a bit cooler, so you have to open the windows during those times to cool the rooms. Bathroom was roomier than expected with enough storage space for lots of toiletries - a real plus in my book. Of course, there's the perennial tiny elevator, large enough for 1 adult + 2 large suitcases, but that was standard throughout our 3 wk vacation thru northern Italy & southern Switzerland. This is a very good alternative to the much more expensive hotels within central Milan, but the prices do increase considerably if there is a special event occurring in the area. We would stay here again if we wanted to stay in central Milan.

Room Tip: Upper rooms are quieter.

Dear Guest,
thank you very much for your review.
Sorry if the guys did't give correct information about the restaurants, we will try to improve.
Our hotel has two lifts, a lift is small and one is big and the customer can choose what they prefer.
it's correct what you wrote about air conditioning: it is like a car: if outside the temperature is less than inside it doesn't work.
For the next time ask to from desk because we can change the room and give to you another one in another side or try to change the program of air conditioning.
We hope to see you again.
Best regard

We stayed at Hotel Canada for 2 nights. It was in walking distance from everything. The room is newly done, on the small side but very clean. Staff was helpful. The breakfast is very good. The area is also not too busy so you can have a good night’s rest. We bought as sightseeing bus ticket and the bus stop is very close to hotel. We didn’t find restaurants close to the hotel so we walked to restaurants closer to the city centre every evening.

Room Tip: We stayed in a standard room. It is on the small side but have everything that you need. They dont h...

I spent a few days in Milan and chose Hotel Canada for price and location. People were very friendly and helpful and location was great! About 10 min walking distance from Duomo and 3 min from Metro station (Crocetta). Rooms were clean and wifi all over. Also breakfast which was included, was very good. Definitely recommend!

We stayed at the Hotel Canada on two separate trips, when we first arrived in Milan and before we left Italy. The front desk reception clerks were very nice and fluent in English, they were able to get us in our room before the official check in time. Room was spacious enough for a triple, nicely furnished and clean. Breakfast is offered each morning until 10:30 or so; a good assortment of breads, croissants, yogurt, cereal and fruit. You can also order coffee and espresso as well. Our first room was on the second floor, facing away from the main street (Santa Sofia) and had very little noise.
Location was great, in residential area with good selection of restaurants nearby. There was a grocery store next to the hotel, which made picking up fruit and water easy and affordable. The walk to the Duomo and the Galleria was about fifteen minutes. Please keep in mind that since this hotel is away from all the tourist attractions, restaurants nearby does not open until after 8pm or so.
On our return trip, we stayed on the fifth floor ( a triple as well) but facing the main street. It was very hard to sleep since the noise level from traffic at all hours was very high. I would highly recommend for a room facing away from the main road.

Room Tip: Rooms facing away from the main road, Santa Sofia, are quieter!

Hotel Canada isn't the most luxurious hotel you'll ever stay in, but for a hotel within walking distance of a number of MIlan landmarks, it's priced well.

The hotel has no carpets (supposedly for allergy sufferers), and according to the note in my room it also allows pets - though I've not seen any. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the name, there are quite a few American guests.

There are a few things I always like to have in a hotel room as a business traveller: plug sockets next to the bed, free wi-fi, real coathangers and separate shower gel / shampoo, all of which are present, but check with the hotel about the free wi-fi as their own literature states that it's not free. There is supposedly also free wired internet in the room (I can't see a network port), and an internet point with a printer in the lobby.

It also appears to have a free (soft drinks only) minibar, a feature that I thought was reserved for members of their corporate scheme, but maybe one to discuss when making a booking. Still, it's a very welcome touch.

The room is clean and everything seems in good condition, and while small it's well designed and modern. The staff all seem to speak perfect English and are very helpful, and the free (again, check) breakfast is limited compared to some hotels but includes bacon, eggs, toast, pastries and cereal, so everything I'd normally eat!

I can't compare Hotel Canada to the other hotels of Milan, but I'm happy to have chosen it and would happily return.

Room Tip: It's a smaller hotel, so consider making a booking by phone to see if you can tailor the extras...
