“Wonderful stay at the Hotel Belvedere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2014

We booked a twin room for three nights. The room was simple but clean and included all of the necessities for a comfortable stay. Most amazing was the huge terrace with sofa and lake view. We booked the room with a side view of the lake, but it was a great view. The hotel staff were wonderful. We ate breakfast daily and dinner there twice. As a vegetarian, I especially appreciated the trouble they went to to make sure my meals were pleasing. I loved the whole wheat pasta with porcini mushrooms. Try the 2010 nebbiolo wine--very good. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and appreciate the hospitality. If you go to Isola Pescatori, be sure to stop and see the shop Concreto. The owner and artisan, Wanda, makes gorgeous raku pottery. It's not inexpensive, but I couldn't resist buying several pieces for myself and as gifts. We loved the lake and area around it.

After 6 weeks of travelling through India, the Middle East and northern Italy, our final place was this beautiful, friendly family-owned hotel for 3 nights. We had stayed in about 11 hotels in our travels and this was the best by far. The hotel is small with 8 rooms and we were in room 102 which had a view of the lake and also to the side overlooking the downstairs courtyard. The view from the windows was to the east looking towards the Swiss Alps and over Isola Madre up the lake (for dramatic sunrises).
We arrived at lunchtime on a Sunday and they were extremely busy. Lara made us welcome and gave us a cold drink while we waited for our room. A quick walk around the island takes about 10 minutes. The room was large enough to have our bags open on the floor and still have room to walk around. Lovely spa bath, and nicely furnished. It was chilly the first night and the heating quickly worked and we had to turn it off. French doors opening from the bathroom and bedroom onto a balcony with chairs and a little table. Lovely spot to have an afternoon relax and read in the western setting sun.
Paco was most helpful with our enquiries and Dieago in the dining room was very professional and friendly.
The food was tasty, nicely presented and a lot of thought has gone into the menu and the little extras on the plates. Especially the different chef's tasters before each meal and a complimentary glass of bubbly. Local fish soup, and a main fish dish were superb for me. My husband really liked the pork medallions. A good range of wines also. Breakfast was in the glass fronted dining room and a little outside courtyard in the warm morning sun. Had everything you could want.
Yes, you have to take a ferry to go anywhere (and not very expensive) but once the visitors (tourists) left on the last ferry at 7pm, the island was very peaceful. It easy to get to the other Boreeaman islands and across to Stresa by ferry.
What made this hotel stand apart from all of the other hotels in our travel, was the staff and management. Friendly, professional, thoughtful and nothing was any bother. If you are planning to stay, let them know when you arrive and they will bring a trolley down for your luggage.
Could not fault the location (absolutely wonderful views everywhere), the comfortable room, excellent food and friendly staff. Such a relaxing stay for the end of our holiday and we will be telling all of our Australian friends to visit.

Room Tip: Our room was 102 (on first floor) with view to the lake from 2 front windows and balcony on the side...

We thoroughly enjoyed our four nights at Hotel Belvedere on Isole dei Pescatori. After flying in from Australia we were too exhausted to go to dinner in the restaurant on our first night and were most grateful that the understanding staff quickly and thoughtfully organised a beautiful dinner and brought it to our room.

Our room 201 was comfortable with a small balcony overlooking water. The room was compact but adequate. The highlight is the unique and stunning outlook and location. For us being able to stay on this tiny island in a small hotel listening to the sound of the waves especially after all the tourists had left for the day was just magic! We loved the location, the meals and appreciated the efforts the staff made to ensure our stay was very pleasant. We enjoyed a hearty breakfast of fruit juice, cereals, cafe latte, eggs and toast each morning.

At night we closed the shutters on our window & balcony door ensuring a good nights sleep. A much enjoyed touch was the complimentary Prosecco and delicious chef's taster to commence dinner. It was my birthday during our stay and I was delightfully surprised when I was presented with the most gorgeous hand painted soap with my name on it during our dinner from the owner and staff.
We found that Hotel Belvedere was a perfect base for visiting the nearby islands and attractions and a perfect retreat after a busy day sightseeing. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Book a room with a view over the water

We stayed 3 nights in mid-May, and were extremely happy with our room, the service and meals at the Belvedere.
Our room (103) was on the 1st floor. There's no lift/elevator but that's no big deal, and it has a large patio with a couch and table - perfect for sundowners. The room is quite compact as is the bathroom, but clean, neat and modern with restrained decor that complements rather than overwhelms the beautiful views.
We had one dinner and one lunch at the restaurant and the food quality was excellent. Breakfasts were good too - we were offered eggs & bacon as well as the usual continental options, plus fruit, yoghurt etc. And of course the restaurant has a lovely situation with a view across the lake.
What set the hotel apart from the norm was the level of service. Right from the start, we were assisted with our luggage (we had quite a lot!). Lara was especially helpful with train and bus bookings, ensuring we had a boat to collect us on time when we left, managing our luggage and so on. All done with the most pleasant and friendly attitude as well. The staff generally went out of their way to ensure that we enjoyed our stay.
The island itself is a perfect get-away from the towns and cities, especially at night (no cars). The only caution would be that a lot of day-trippers visit, so I'm sure in mid-summer it can get rather crowded.
Isola dei Pescatori/Superiorie is well placed for day visits to Isola Bella and Isola Madre &/or Stresa and other lakeside towns.

Dear David,
thank you for your positive review about the Belvedere!

We live and works in a wonderful location, so just a little effort is required to make the location pleasant and nice from the aesthetic point of view; but the most important thing to me is to make people feeling welcome and at home: for this reason, me and my staff always do our best to anticipate our guests needs, especially related to our house deficiency (e.g. the lack of the elevator).
Your comments make me feel that we are working in the right direction!
I also appreciated your congratulations about our kitchen, thank you very much!

Looking forward to welcoming you again, Kindest regards

Paco

We came to Belvedere to see it the hotel was suitable for a wedding. It definitely is not.. When we stepped in, the first thing you smell is fried food. The interior looks cheap and the staff was not very interested in us. The room was fine: clean and nothing special. Bathroom was fine too.
In the morning we went down for breakfast around 9 but found out that the buffet (small to begin with) was almost empty. We got luke warm tea and coffee but the waiter didn't speak english so we couldn't ask for a proper breakfast.
We paid €190 for the above, it would have been fine for about €100 but this was not what we hoped for.

Dear Danielle 1,

thank you for your review.
We are sorry that you have this negative impression about our hotel and our reception...our impression instead, was that from the very beginning you feel like you arrived in the wrong place, and we will try to explain to you why.

Your room was reserved by a wedding planner who asked our collaboration showing you the location and giving you information about the wedding organization; when you arrived, we were a little bit busy with the restaurant service, but we show you the room and ask you to come to the reception during the afternoon to give you the required information; you did not show the minimum interest and when you come back to the reception and we offered to show you some pictures, you decline the offer. You did not even had dinner at our restaurant!

Are you sure you were interested in our location or you simply realized it was not the hotel you were looking for?

Concerning the breakfast, it seems wery strange what you are writing about: we have a couple of waiters who don't speak English, but we always have on service English speaking staff, ready to support their colleagues in case of difficulties in understanding clients needs.
In any case, we are sorry if you hadn't have a "proper breakfast".

Kindest regards

We came here at the beginning of the season and it was quiet, but we thought our one night stay was excellent. Our second floor was bright and airy, and the views to the east across the lake were fantastic. The bathroom - shower only - was fine, but basic, and those annoying sachets of shampoo and tiny packets of soap a a bit of a let down. Dinner was very good and presented lake fish well. Breakfast was also good and with plenty of choice - and exceptional service.

The highlight to me is staying on a small island, and waking to those spectacular views. The evening v morning light make a huge difference to the way the mountains and lake appear. In our view the place was excellent and we slept deeply to the sound of the lake outside. For room choice, I think I preferred our 2nd floor lake view room with the small two seater balcony on which to sit and marvel. The larger balcony is right underneath and lacks privacy, and means the room is some way back.

There are several places to eat on the island - which is small (we walked around the whole island in 15 mins) - from larger formal restaurants near the pier to tiny back street cafes. Have your camera ready on the ferry as you approach/leave too!

Room Tip: Lake view is a must - 2nd floor small balcony or less private large 1st floor balcony? I'd go fo...

We are a young couple who travel often and rely on trip advisor to choose great hotels with a fair price. Hotel Belvedere has the potential to be very special but, unfortunately it is not, because it neglects some aspects that could be easily solved. Here's our view of pluses and minuses:
+ Very romantic location and the view from the room is one of the best in the island
+ Renovated rooms in parquet, airy, fresh and clean...Ours was the one with terrace and it was quite large. The terrace is fantastic.
+ Free boat pick up service for customers arriving in the evening or at night, after the public boats stop working. The boat trip to the island in the evening is, by itself, a very special moment
+ The price is fair
+ The heating works well and so does and internet
+ The service is friendly
And now the minuses, which jeopardize everything:
- The ‘double bed’ is simply two old single beds put together under the same sheets. If you are a couple, either each of you sleeps strictly on your side or, inevitably, one of you will have an uncomfortable sleep due to the beds tearing apart
- The bed cover is very old fashioned and gives the same look to the entire room. The room would look much nicer with a different cover or a normal duvet.
- The only ‘curtains’ are just that very thin white tissue, transparent. There are no opaque curtains to block the sun light. So if you are not used to it, you will wake up early.

Finally, a couple of things that are OK but could be improved. The breakfast is served from 8:15 to 10 (which is somewhat early, in our opinion)... maybe because we got there at 9:45 there was not much choice anymore. For dinner we tried the restaurant in the day of our arrival. It has a nice view but the food is just OK. We suggest that you specifically request to be seated in the main room, because it is much nicer than the adjacent room. If the weather is good, seat outside.
All in all, the hotel is OK for one night, but in our opinion could be much better if it improved on some aspects, especially the bed.

Room Tip: If you can, get the room with the terrace (there is only 1). It is great to sunbath in the morning o...

Dear Client,
Thank you for your interesting and detailed review about our hotel.
It is very interesting for us receiving a review from a couple who travel a lot as you.

We are pleased that you appreciated the location and the romantic atmosphere, the cleaning of the rooms and the service.

Concerning the “minus” we know that the bed are not very comfortable, but the solution to have two single beds allows us to divide them when we have people asking for a room with two single beds. We are thinking about a solution (like a thick cover for the mattress) to avoid people to feel the gap between the two beds.
Also concerning the bed covers, we agree that they are a little old fashion, and we will probably change them next season...we are thinking about something to give to the room a more fresh look.

Concerning the curtains, we preferred this kind instead of thick, dark curtains, to allow a better view of the lake: we do not want any affected and too rich furnishing into the rooms that can call away the attention from the lake view: this is the reason why the furnishing is so poor and simple.
To partially block the sun light, windows are provided with dark shutters that can be closed at evening.

Concerning breakfast, at the time being we cannot extend the time of service, since at 12.00 we start serving lunch and we need time to prepare the dining room after breakfast. It can happens that at 9.45 the buffet is not as rich as it is at 8.15, but we are always ready to prepare something fresh to the clients, asking them what they prefer (eggs, ham, cheese, cakes, fresh fruit).
Thank you again for your comments, that will help us in improving our offer.

Kindest regards
