“"Great central location in the town"”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 20, 2014

We had a wonderful five day break in Stresa and we were very happy with the accomodation at Affittacamere via Mazzini. Our room on the first floor was clean and nicely decorated and overlooked one of the narrow streets below. ( good for people watching) Breakfast was continental and consisted of the usual croissants, cakes and cold meats and cheeses, fruit and yoghurts. The food was excellent and plentiful. The staff in reception,( in the restaurant below) were very approachable and friendly. We had trouble booking our return trip to the airport and Carlo? kindly sorted it out for us. We only had an evening meal there once which was traditional and very nice. The location of this hotel is 5 minutes from the ferry terminal and is perfect for visiting the Borromean Islands and the rest of the lake. We bought a two day ticket that allowed us to go on the Lake Maggiore Express on the first day and a trip to Isola Bella and Isola Dei Pescatori on the second day.The cost was 42 euros and was worth every penny! The Lake Maggiore Express is a must. The trip takes you up by train from Stresa to Domodossola. Here you transfer to the Centovalli train with large viewing windows with panoramic views of small villages and incredible mountains. The train journey is spectacular and crosses the border into Switzerland dropping down into Locarno where it terminates. We were told that Ascona was a far nicer place and took a ferry to spend a few hours there before travelling back to Stresa on a lovely 3 hour sail. Isola Bella is also a must to visit. The palace and gardens are so beautiful and the white peacocks are spectacular!! Stresa is a great base for exploring the lake and has a lovely village atmosphere . We will be revisiting next year!!

I have chosen this hotel because of its location and of course reviews. Well... location indeed great, just beside central plaza. note that you can get by car to Hotel, as it is location in 'no car' zone. So after finding parking, you will have to go by foot. This is not too big of issue, i could find parking within 5 min walk (with baggage). Also parking in opposite direction from sea become free after some time - try small streets. Location speaking we could find all we needed: Boats to islands, restaurants, supermarket all located very close-by.
Rooms are clean, maintained. No issues there. We didn't try their breakfast, as our voucher did not include it, but I saw home made cakes, cereals and etc. I have interacted with owners. They were helpful, but at least for me, I got the feeling as it was not done with all their attention and heart...
All in all good place. Recommended.

I got a rather good room, but with not much of a window. That is, the window in the entrance hall opened into the courtyard, so the room had no direct daylight. While this could be a disaster in the winter, or if one is planning to spend any time in the room other than sleeping, in the summer, this was a blessing. The air conditioning worked beautifully, and the bathroom was spacious and well appointed. My cousins who had reserved through the same website, had a rather run down room, hot in spite of the air-conditioner...

Room Tip: Ask for room C, if you want the room that I had.
