“beautiful, but a little dated”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2014

Stayed here as part of our Globus bus tour of Italy this past May.....location fabulous!...the view of the lake and mountains right across the street is stunning, the grounds and pool were pretty, and well maintained. Very strange indoor decor...odd art pieces thrown together, a very old feeling, long hallway connecting some of the sections, with strange or dated displays....if this place was redecorated it would be perfect. Room was comfortable enough.
Oh, and watch out, there is an elevator that goes sideways, not up and down, no one warned us and it was pretty funny!

Our second Riviera Travel holiday. Both excellent. The choice was the Astoria and Regina Palace and the Bristol. Two of the Riviera reps thought the food at the Bristol was "far and away better" than at the other two hotels. We had dinner there most of the week and had no complaints. Breakfasts were excellent, plenty of cereal, fresh fruit, different breads and pastries plus the usual cold meats etc and lovely sweet freshly squeezed orange juice, however, only risk the scrambled eggs if you are desperate. Our room was fairly small, but adequate. Great bathroom and the bed was huge, a little too firm but definitely not hard. Would not hesitate to stay there again. Worth bearing in mind that although the rooms at the front of the hotel have the wonderful views of the lake, they face North, so not so great if you are wanting to sunbathe on your balcony. A side view room would then be more appropriate.

Room Tip: Lake view rooms face North. Side view rooms face pool and lake and are sunnier. A lot of the rooms...

We arrived after driving for more than 9 hours, we were exhausted and when we saw our triple room, we didn't like it. After checking other rooms, we found out this triple room was better than the other options. The personnel were always helpful and friendly. Our room was very spacious with a lake/isola bella island view. The breakfast was very good with all kind of variety. The hotel is clean and well maintenance. The public was mostly older people and little families. The outside pool was very nice and clean, the inside pool is quite lonely without atmosphere. The only problem was the distance for going to town or the supermarket, its quite far.

Room Tip: ask for a room with a view

Visiting the Grand Hotel Bristol is like stepping back into the hey days of grand hotels where residents would summer in luxury. While the hotel is maintained well and our rooms were very clean and comfortable, the overall impression is more modest than a contemporary luxury hotel but so is the price. We enjoyed the expansive pool and did find the registration staff very helpful and accommodating. The Bristol delivered what we asked it and if you enter the lobby with the right expectations, you will enjoy your stay.

The location of the Grand Hotel Bristol is the selling point of this hotel. In addition to the hotel being situated adjacent to the impressive lake it has a welcoming staff and very clean bedrooms/ dining rooms. Indoor and outdoor swimming pools are of a high quality also. Many hotels produce videos and information which show their hotels in a very good light, however, this hotel really does provide what it says on the tin. The dining terrace is a stunning location, providing lake views at dinner and breakfast. Every hotel has plus and negative points, and the Grand Bristol is no exception, so here we go.
1. Positive=, staff attentive without being intrusive, food hot and tasty at evening meals, salad bar choice was second to none, cleanliness all over hotel is very good, views from front and side of hotel were excellent.
2. Negative-, The scrambled eggs were a hit or miss at breakfast(lukewarm or just cold). the hotel bar lacks evening entertainment and bar prices don't compete with the local bars in Stresa. The hotel would attract more residents to the bar if it even tried to compete rather than putting over an attitude that we don't have to try.

Plus/Minus ?, yes it is a plus for Grand Bristol

Do yourself a favour and book a room with lake views it real is worth it.

Room Tip: book a lake view

Bristol has a good pool area and a pool bar with very friendly staff. Breakfast is good but not fantastic, you can add it for 16 euro per person if it was not included in your booking.

Wifi is quite expensive, but you can get 2 hours free usage by filling in some questions. The hotel has a small fitness room and an indoor pool. There was a treadmill, a bike and a cross trainer, a small bench with some free weights, and a multi-machine for some other exercises.

It's a 10-15 minute walk to get to the center of Stresa with all the shops and the restaurants, but it's a great walk with an awesome view.

Room Tip: Pick a room with a lake view. It's worth it.

Wonderful view of the lake from your room is available, for a price. We had a view of gardens which was tranquil. The staff were first class and at tentative to our touring group.. The food and service in the dining room was pretty good.. The room we stayed in was clean and the beds weren't rock hard.
