“Very grand”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2014

We stayed here for 2 nights as part of Globus Italian Mosaic tour. The hotel is very beautiful and in an absolutely perfect location. We were in room 336 with a stunning view of Lake Maggiore (pity the weather was so bad for us). Our room had a small balcony which looked straight out at the gorgeous lake view, however the room was quite small - it was hard to fit our suitcases anywhere. The grounds and facilities of this hotel are wonderful - the outdoor pool area looks superb and the indoor pool was very welcome. The decorations, seating in public areas etc are all of top quality - the bar, lobby and lounge areas were very warm and inviting. Drinks in the bar were very expensive though. It is a shame that the hotel finds it impossible to offer free wifi with all the other opulence!!! A hotel that obviously places so much importance on the aesthetics needs to provide a service that in today's society is considered almost essential by so many (even backpacker hostels provide better for cheaper!) You could only get 20 minutes free wifi and then it was 5euros for an hour (you could pay 20euro for 10 hours (cumulative not consecutive, which is a better deal, but didn't suit our circumstance). Bathroom was tiny! with shower over the bath, shower nozzle was at the side of the tub making it very difficult to manoeuvre under, good temperature and power though. Due to the position of the shower, water leaked under the shower screen and soaked the floor/mat. The toilet was so close to the hand basin I hit my leg every time I stood up. The included dinner was fantastic! and breakfast was very good. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

2 level top-floor room with lake view was breathtaking. Beautiful "Belle-Epoque style" hotel; transports you back in time. Incredible view over the lake, mountains, and pool. The location is stunning and the hotel's interiors are beautifully maintained.

The hotel is extremely sophisticated in decoration with caring staff, the best rooms I've come across, two stunning pools, and in a perfect location only a five/ten minute walk to the fine restaurants and shops. I would love to visit Lake Maggiore again, I've been around most of Italy and it still remains my favourite. Everything about the location is beautiful and I defiantly revist Grand Hotel Bristol. Breakfast is pretty simple but it serves its purpose, each night we walked to dinner down the road we passed all the beautiful looking hotels and yet we still agreed that ours looked the best! Everything is great, hope to visit again.

If you do not think that the main aim of a tourist is to maximize the miles traveled, if you do not want to look at as many monuments as possible and remember none of them, if you like to enjoy spending an afternoon visiting a baroque palace and walking slowly in its garden, if you relax looking at the waves in the lake while you are waiting for a slow boat, then Stresa is the right place to spend your holidays and Hotel Bristol is the right place for this old fashioned way of making tourism.
The hotel is located on the lakefront of Stresa and is surrounded by a beautiful garden with a swimming pool lying among multicolored flowerbeds. Should it unfortunately rain don’t despair, there is also an indoor swimming pool and a fitness room. My room was wide and accurately furnished; the bathroom was comfortable.
All of this comes at a cost, of course, which is adequate but not low; what in my opinion is surprising is that the internet connection is not included: nowadays also the tourist looking for a “belle époque” atmosphere needs sometimes to look at his e-mail and is used to find it even in much more cheaper accommodations. Also the price for breakfast is excessive but if you do not necessarily need to eat sausages and eggs, you may walk to Piazza Matteotti, in front of the pier, where a good patisserie sells tasting brioches ad hot beverages at affordable prices.

Room Tip: there are many different types of rooms; speaking with other cusomers I realized that the quality ma...

Probably the number 2 hotel of Stresa, sitting right on the lake and with superb views of the lake and Isolabella. Very varied rooms, views sizes. Elegant formal areas and delightful grounds as well as a lovely large pool. Good quality food. A fine choice for a visit to the lake.

Room Tip: be sure to get a decent sized room facing the gardens and lake.....actually the best views are on th...
