“Calm and easy hotel at The Lago Maggiore”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2014

We stayed 5 nights in July with our son aged 20. We had a wonderful time. The hotel is lovely. Very nice staf. Especially the waiters at the breakfast restaurant. The rooms are not large but sufficiente space and beautiful decor. We had a lake view which was worth every penny. The pools were great. The indoor pool was The Best we have ever tried. Must be seen and tried. Breakfast and location outstanding. Only minus was the WIFI quality. Please assure WIFI for all guests in every room and we will definately be back. Stresa itself is a wonderful little town worth visiting. Visit the islands and the mountain by cable car.

Room Tip: Pick The Lake view

Stayed for a week through Riviera Travel and was most impressed. Hotel is clean and immaculate. Regency design with a touch of Art Nouveau - beautiful rooms and public areas. Very attentive staff and food quality was good bearing in mind they are catering for international clientele. No problem in recommending a stay here.

He made my kids feel really welcome. They really liked him and the young lady helping him (his daughter?). Happy kids, happy holiday! For the parents, a lovely big, deep pool set in beautiful gardens with good quality sun loungers and facilities. Perfect!

Stayed here for 2 nights as part of a 44-person tour group. Excellent location across street from Lake Maggiore. Very elegant hotel, loaded with Murano Chandeliers, marble corridors, and a very elegant atmosphere. Restaurant food was quite acceptable. Staff service was generally satisfactory but their attitude was a little condensending and sometimes arrogant. Easy walking distance from the shopping and eating part of Stressa. Most vendors we encountered were friendly and helpful. Had an excellent lunch across the street from the Hotel at a small cafe on the lake.

I honestly cannot remember having stayed in such a beautiful hotel in Italy before. It was phenomenal just entering the hotel, the lobby, the chandeliers in each room, the rooms, the beds, the bath rooms, the whole hotel just embraced its combined art noveau and rococo style. We were breathtaken. As a family of four we had booked two rooms with connecting doors. One of the rooms was an "ordinary", not very big, but beautifully designed. The other room was a larger room with a sitting area and a large bathroom with a spa tub. Both rooms had a balcony. Our large room just gave the last nodge up. The indoor swimming pool was a chapter of its own. I have never seen such a beautiful area. The whole pool floor was designed as if it was covered with sand and shells and more. The area was equipped with several spa areas and groves with water mists, sauna and nice bathing facilities. As the weather was nice we were the only ones at the indoor pool for several hours. The outside pool - great. Never a struggle for sunbeds or towels. The gardens were so beautifully trimmed. Staff very attentive and friendly. The hotel has one of the best locations directly at the sea. Though our rooms did not have sea view (double price), the garden view is absolutely worth it. The whole restaurant area - again - the eye gets a feast. One of the former hotel directors gathered antique porcelains, which is nicely displayed in the halls. Breakfast was not overwhelming considering everything else is so great. But just getting served coffee and hot chocolate in silver pots - the tables, everything. Fantastic. Not so well functioning was the WiFi. Only one user per room and the capacity was low. If you wanted to have more, you would have to upgrade and pay. Also we had a lot of problems with the keycards which kept losing their codes. But the staff at the reception handled it. Go the Spa, when you get here. I got a treatment and it was just great. Stresa is a nice little city and though there are many tourists, the Lago Maggiore is mangificent. We will return and definitely stay at the Regina Palace again

The hotel is elegant, the gardens pristine, the pool area fine - the food is AWFUL. Breakfast - scrambled eggs, bacon and cold meats - every day - no variety. The evening meal was a disaster the salad consisted of grated carrot, lettuce and beetroot that's it! The pulse soup was terrible, grey black colour, lukewarm, like Dickensian gruel!! The main course was rubbery chicken or prawn curry - four prawns on 2 oz of rice and a sauce that certainly wasn't curry. it was uneatable. We paid for seven nights half board and ate out for six. Never again.

Room Tip: Garden rooms are OK. Lake view 80 euros extra

We loved the Italian classical elegance of the rooms and public places. Eat every night in the main restaurant and always had superb service and good food and wine presented with flair. Have stayed 3 times and will probably return one day
