“Perfect place to enjoy Lake Maggiore”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2014

. Just thinking of this place makes me smile. I first visited this pension in 1997 and have been fortunate enough to have stayed there several times since then. I absolutely love the town, the hotel and the Baveno area in general. We make this our base and visit Stresa and the little islands. The Rigoli is a lovely family owned hotel. It has always been spotless and perfectly maintained when we have stayed. They also have a few apartments now if you want more space. The restaurant on the first level with both inside and outside dining and the food is delicious. It is absolutely charming and I think virtually every room has a gorgeous view of the lake. If you want to see the real Italy, the small town with genuine people, then this place is perfect. The owner’s daughter Claudia (if I recall her name correctly) speaks several languages and is the perfect hostess.

Room Tip: I think they are all good but prefer the top floor.

I can’t think of a more heavenly place for a holiday than the Hotel Rigoli. It is in the most beautiful spot one can imagine directly on Lake Maggiore. All the wonderful reviews you will read about it are absolutely true. The food is so delicious and the personnel is so wonderful that we enjoyed both breakfast and dinner every day in the hotel with its incredible view of the Lake. Your dog is welcome and you can take him on the greatest hikes with lovely views of the Lake. It is a place that you will wish to return to again and again. The quality-price ratio absolutely can not be beaten!

You can't beat this hotel if you love delicious food, a small family run hotel, and prices that will be kind to your bank account. We first happened upon the Rigoli in 1983. We just adored staying there then, and have returned again and again whenever we were fortunate enough to visit Northern Italy. The location is perfect - an easy walk to the ferry terminal, a short boat ride to the 3 main Borromean Islands and Stresa, and not far from Villa Taranto. Best of all, it is one of the few hotels just a few feet from the water. And the kitchen is still in the hands of the same woman, the mother of Claudia and Patrizia, the daughters who worked for their parents in the hotel 30 years ago and are now managing the hotel operation. The dinners are outstanding. We always have opted for half pension. A room facing the water is worth the extra charge, and the south corner rooms are a little larger and have a very special view. This hotel is a very special place and I recommend it very highly.

We had the most wonderful time on our 2 night stay in this delightful hotel. The setting is just beautiful and Claudia, family and all the staff make you feel like you are visiting family. The day we arrrived it was Claudia's father's 90th birthday and we were invited to join his birthday celebrations which was a real treat. Being able to use Facetime with the free WiFi was also an added bonus as family back home in Australia were able to enjoy and experience this wonderful location. This was our favourite place on our 4 week European holiday. Highly recommended!

I like to end my trips in northern Italy with staying in Baveno the last couple of days. It's beautiful and about as convenient as staying in Milan before your flight out of MXP. From walking out of the hotel to sitting at the boarding gate (with stopping for gas and returning the rental car) it was exactly 2 hours and 20 minutes. I have a thing about staying ON the lake as opposed to across the street from the lake. I really don't want to look out my window and see street. I live in New York; I don't need to see anymore street :) We've stayed in one of the bigger hotels in town before but this time I wanted something with more of a "local flavor" i.e. no tour groups or business groups. The Rigoli was perfect. The rooms were recently redecorated and the shower was better than the hotel days before that literally cost 3 times the rate. The restaurant and bar area are beautifully decorated with much attention to detail. The staff and owners were all very friendly. We were there the last night of their season and there was no indication they would be soon closing; no packing up, limited options etc. I will most definitely be staying here again. We can clearly see how much they love their hotel.

The Rigoli is a delightful Hotel and I fully understand why people come back again and again. No it doesn't have 4 or 5 star facilities like Room Service (although you are welcome to take tea coffee etc from the bar to your room) and there is no fridge or tea making facility in the room, no laundry but it's a family hotel and the staff are unfailingly cheerful; and friendly. And possibly all related? It's location is perfect although swimming in the lake in mid September is for the hardy. We didn't eat in the Hotel (7.00 is a bit late for us - wimps) but found some nice lakeside cafes and restaurants with good pizzas and pasta dishes. The Hotel menu looked good though. It's only a short walk to the town centre and the ferry buildings. We just about found enough to do in a week - we had our car with us and drove down in 2 days from Oxfordshire. Lovely break

Room Tip: Do go for a lakeside room - we had a room on the end overlooking the lake with Stresa in the distan...

We have just returned from yet another visit to the Hotel Rigoli and it just gets better.
There is nothing that could be done to improve this hotel ! Claudia and her wonderful team ensure that you have a superb holiday and nothing is too much trouble as long as you are happy. The evening meal as always is excellent. Lunch on the terrace is probably the best value in Baveno & the breakfast is just wonderful.
Always book a room with a lake view and balcony. We shall be returning next year.
