“A wonderful hotel and hospitality”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 15, 2010

The Lido Palace was a wonderful experience. The hospitality was second to none, the food was fantasic and the service was great. The location on the lake was amazing as you got beautiful sunrises and sunsets everyday. The only thing I would have liked softer pillows for a more comfortable sleep, the bedrooms were very spacious and very nice.
I would recomend this hotel to all of our friends a wonderful relaxing holiday

Just returned from a 1 week stay with husband and friends at this traditional and unique hotel on the shores of Lake Maggiore.
On arrival just before midday we were shown directly to our rooms personally by the friendly receptionist. To our delight we had been upgraded to Deluxe rooms on the 2nd floor rather than the 'eaves' rooms on the 4th floor we had booked, probably because the hotel was not busy, but a welcome surprise none the less! High ceilings and traditional furnishings are the style in the bedrooms with original shutters inside and out of the windows and heavy drapes. The bathroom was excellent with twin sinks and a spa bath with large showerhead over and marble clad walls and spotlessly clean. The small balcony which looked out on the spectacular views across the lake past the Borromean Islands to the mountains beyond definately had the 'wow ' factor!
The ambiance in this hotel is of staying in the somewhat faded elegance of a traditional Italian Villa as guests of the D'Amico family who own and run the hotel. There are many old and also family photos dotted around the walls and great store is taken to let you know that Winston Churchill spent his honeymoon here and there are also connections to Queen Victoria - there are not only photos and letters, but also large statues of both in the grounds.
The dining room and lounge areas run the whole width of the hotel and the front is entirely of glass which overlooks the lake which makes it a beautiful place to dine or just sit and relax. Service is friendly and efficient and the food is good [we were on half board and felt no need to eat elsewhere]. There are also pretty terraces outside where you can have a snack lunch or drinks.
The hotel is on a slight rise up from the road and the pretty mature gardens lead down to the swimming pool where there are plenty of loungers and parasols. One downside is the proximity of the pool area to the road which means there is a fair bit of traffic noise here. An alternative is to cross the road to the hotels private piece of lake side which also has loungers and parasols and is somewhat quieter.
It is just a short stroll into Baveno centre where the ferries leave for Stresa, the Borromean Islands and various other destinations on the lake. There is also a train station and busses .
If you want a hotel that is bang up to date and just like numerous other hotels around the world, then the Lido Palace is not for you, but if you are looking for somewhere a little different and in a magnificent position, the do try this delightful hotel, I doubt you will be disapointed!

Stayed for 2 nights in August, nice room with beautiful lake view. Lovely breakfast with excellent cappuccinos, felt the hotel may have been grander in days gone by. Baveno was quite quiet, preferred Stresa were we stayed for another 2 nights

I have just returned from another stay at this fantastic hotel with my young family. I can't compliment the hotel or it's staff highly enough.

This was our first stay at this hotel and we arrived just as a large group of Tango lovers turned up.It turned out this hotel caters for large groups but unlike other reviewers on this site we did not feel we were overlooked or put second to them,in fact we were given a table right by the window for breakfast/dinner enjoying fabulous views of the lake. The staff especially Roberto&Maria our waitress were friendly, helpful and efficient. The room was lovely as was the view from our balcony,we would only change the plastic chairs on the balcony as they were uncomfortable.

Stayed here for 3 nights in early June, found an offer from hotel website - stay 3 nights, pay for 2!

First of all, we had a late flight and therefore arrived at the hotel after midnight, and what we found at the room: free supper - selection of meat, fruits etc plus couple of wine bottles. Well, felt welcome!

The hotel is very elegant, beautiful and clean. The staff is great -helpful, polite and friendly. We had a lake-view room, and, would recommend as the view is gorgeous!! If really searching something to complain, I would say that the pool is not the newest and the breakfast could offer more selections. But on the other hand, there was open bar at the lobby on Friday evening - free wine, sparkling, beer, snacks, and the gorgeous view to the lake....

Generally, it is good to have a car here as there is nothing special in Baveno. Ferry to nearby islands and towns is in walking distance.

One of the few hotels I have visited that I feel I MUST COME BACK!!
