“Nice Lago Maggiore Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2014

Was in Baveeno for a few days for training. Hotel was very good and had a dock, a nice patio, a pool, a few "beach" chairs near the dock. It would have been a good vacation spot for those who don't seek the sea but want water nearby. The lake itself is very cool with Swiss Alp water feeding it and alot of slippery smooth rocks on the floor. The hotel's food was pretty good with a decent breakfast buffet and nice lunch options at the hotel bar and restaurant. The sister hotel Dino down the road had some better lunch options and an indoor pool that you can use if you prefer to get an early swim in. Alfonso at the bar is very personable and keeps you engaged (even if your Italian is as poor as mine). Room was a mix of old and modern with modern entry way coupled with an older decor in the room. Bathroom was basic but hot water was hot and everything worked so can't complain there. Bed was pretty good as well, but I was glad they had extra pillows in the closet since the ones on the bed were pretty flat. Overall a great time, a couple of extra touches would have put it over the top. A lack of iron and ironing board in the room for one. There is a shared one at two locations in the main building, the lighting in the hallways seemed a little too dingy on the room floors, if they were going for an older look, it came off looking dingy. Housekeeping did a good job of turning down beds and providing some toiletries when used but if you got a swim in and came back midday, you might need to call for a second new towel even after the room was serviced. Overall a great stay and close to the ferry (short 10 minute walk) to check out nearby towns.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a Lake View

Beautiful hotel, amazing stuff, great room, location and breakfast.

Strange thing in the room - there was only 1 electricity plug. We needed to charge 2 smartphones, a laptop and use hair dryer, all in the same spot.

Room Tip: Ask for view to the lake. You will pay more but it worth it.

We have just enjoyed our sixth visit to Hotel Splendid in five years - we keep coming back as we love it so much. From the moment you walk into the lobby it feels special, and a walk outside to the bar area and seating deck confirms this.

The management and staff are always so courteous and welcoming, nothing is too much trouble. Last year, we asked to change room for personal reasons, and this was accommodated without fuss or question, and Mr Zacchera was particularly helpful with this.

The rooms are of a certain style, which we feel adds to the splendour - it has a real Italian feel. I note previous comments have made mention of the size of the rooms - but every time we have stayed at the hotel, the room sizes have been more than adequate for us. The bathrooms are very spacious and spotless every time, and the balcony is a joy to sit on and enjoy either the lake or the mountains.

We rarely eat at the hotel, as there is so much choice elsewhere in Baveno, but when we have done it has been beautifully presented and highly enjoyable food. The service is high quality to match.

The beach area for hotel guests only is a real bonus for us, giving the opportunity to relax and worship the sun in a fantastic setting beside the lake. Jumping off the pontoon into the lake is an added bonus for cooling down. You can also arrange a boat to pick you up/set you down at the hotel rather than taking the short stroll down to the town centre, if you wish.

We cannot recommend this hotel enough, it meets all our needs (though we don't particularly have much need for extended use of wifi facilities, which I appreciate some would like to have on offer for greater than the current 2 hours free).

Note: pets are also welcome, and it is great to see a few dogs around the place.

Whenever you book a holiday or just a weekend out, you seek a nice place and a good accomodation at this place.

I am here to rate the hotel and this is what I will do, but as good as the hotel might be, be warned that Baveno might not be the place you are looking for, unless you are looking for something very specific. Baveno has very little to offer in terms of visits and / or animations. The lake is great and the region quite beautiful, but this is it. So unless you intend to be a lot on the lake (watersorts enthusiast ?) or to drink the landscape, this place might bore you.

Now, back to the hotel.
Hotel Splendid has been fully renovated in the late nineties. It looks excellent, very clean and quite nice if you are not bothered by a slightly heavy baroque style. There are nice stones everywhere (granite, marble, ...) granite has been one of the main ressources in the region anyway (there is a small museum on the topic in town). Everything is shiny and creates an exclusive atmosphere.

It is situated at one end of Baveno, about one kilometer away from the centre. It is directly on the main road which is a national road, quite traffic heavy. So if you want a reasonably quiet stay, get a lake viev room. The hotel has its own underground parking, it will cost you 10 euros per day, but the car will be underground, in the shadows, and there are not so many parking opportunities close by. Be warned that the parking is quite small, so if your car is big, you might have to sweat a bit to get it properly parked.
Walking from the hotel to town can be done on the main road (not very nice) or through a public park under the hotel, the park closes at 22h30 though.

The hotel offers a small swimming pool, and a small SPA. This is good since you might end up spending lots of time directly inside the hotel, it might as well have some amenities for you.
The spa is not free mind you, you will pay 15 euros extra per day to have access.
The hotel also has a small private beach on the lake with a pontoon to allow access by boat. Nice place to rest and read peacefully.

There is a fine restaurant inside the hotel. Slighly more expensive than the restaurants in town, but the food is good, cooked and served with care. The bar and restaurant staff is excellent.

The clear drawback is that breakfast will be served only until 10h00 and the restaurant opens at 12h00, so between 10h00 and 12h00, no way to have a bite inside the hotel. The breakfast will be served at the restaurant or in your room at no extra charge.
I would have preferred a restaurant with short opening times and a large choice and a snack bar opened 24h with a small choice... Like it is done in other hotels.

There is a piano bar in the evenings, quite in style with the hotel, but (according to my taste ...) the team (piano, sax and voice) gave quite a poor performance.

You can have some wifi in your room but you will pay (yes, again) for it, 20 euros for 10 hours (you can get less time, but the price per unit is higher) I paid to be able to send some whatsapp and read my mails, the network was unreliable, it just came and went. Good enough for my needs, but if you really need internet access, don't waste your money on this, find another solution. The nice thing though is that you get your login through an automated kiosk in the lobby.

Globally I enjoyed the hotel, it is really nice, clean, the rooms are good enough, initially we took a mountain (road) view room but were upgraded with no charge. The hotel offered the necessary amenities for us to have a relaxing stay. I wouldn't go there again though, but it is due to the lack of things to do in Baveno or around according to my personal tastes.

There are very many hotel offerings in Baveno, I visited another Zacchera hotel, the Dino, which is better located in town but is way too big for my taste. IT has an excellent restaurant though.
A last advice, at this time of the years, mosquitos are having some real fun, so protect yourself.

So if Baveno is the place you want to visit, if you like a hotel that is not too big and offers all the amenities, Splendid hotel night just be what you need.

Room Tip: Definitely lake side if you do not want the road to wake you up.

After reading rather different comments of the hotel I had the chance to be there, as my wife was in a congress held there. I would say that the Splendid is a very good hotel in many senses. The room we had was quite small, but you have that problem in Europe, but all the rest was wonderful. A very nice and brand new bathroom, good furniture, a decoration that maybe you wouldn´t like (very far from minimalism) but nice in its way, and if you get a room overlooking the lake or part of the lake (ask for that) with rather nice views.
The breakfast was also good. The breakfast area, that overlooks the lake, makes it even better. About the private beach, I found it good. It is not what we may understand as a real beach, but a terrace at lake level with beach umbrellas and a dock where you can dive into the lake.
The staff was courteous enough and polite. We only had a quick lunch at the restaurant but it was well prepared, tasty and quite big servings.

Room Tip: Ask for an upper room overlooking the lake or at least part of it. Try not to get a room on the road...

Stayed at the Splendid with my husband and friends for a week and have no complaints at all. Our room was very well equipped and clean. Beautiful seating areas and the pool was well looked after, although one day there was a frog having a swim. Short walk into Baverno where there are some lovely restaurants, meals at the hotel were very expensive. Staff very friendly and although we arrived very late, we were met with a friendly smile and luggage was taken to our room.

Room Tip: Go for a Lakeside room, less noisy.

I was shocked when i arrived at this hotel. Trip Advisor reviews were outstanding. I booked a room for three people and it would have been crowded with TWO people ( I was solo). I don't know where they took the beach photos because the beach near the hotel is a mud puddle.

Internet was ungodly expensive, difficult to access (you have to pay at a kiosk) and the four times that I had to purchase, the printers with the receipt never worked. If the front desk is staffed, this is a minor problem as they can provide log in details. however, there are times during the night when no one is at the desk!!! Internet was VERY slow.

Location is not the best...there are far better options such as the Dino that i review separately since I stayed there too. Splendid is tucked away in a dark part of via Sempione and there is nothing of interest that is a short walk from the hotel.

Check out was painful and slow. There was a $30 mistake on my bill and the front desk man did not know how to remove the double charge.

Not a value at all

Room Tip: lake view is essential
