Description: Dear Guests, the starting idea of this restaurant embodies one of the themes from the popular movie Amelie (Le Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain) directed by Jean Pierre Jeunet in 2001, that is to keep a curious eye on the world and take pleasure in the simple things ... we tried to carry this idea through in the meals, offering a mixture of flavors, fragrances and also feelings to free the spirit ... and ...fly ...The restaurant Amelie is a place where you can taste good food and learn small tricks for your own well-being . The first of which being a return to simplicity, that to Paolo (Chef Patron) and Miky (Naturopath) means in first place to live according to the pace of the seasons. This simple and primary secret is translated in the seasonal menu based on the ingredients that Nature offers us only in their own season. For this reason the courses will vary according to season availability.Amelie wants to make people aware that we are what we eat.Paolo, who is rational, calculating and practical and Miky, who is instinctive, ethereal and sentimental , want to share their views so that you can share yourselves with many more people the pleasures of good eating and well-being on your own and with others. That's why for example we use pure oils, essences of flowers and leaves, and fruits and berries in the environment and in the food.At the end of the meal, if you want you can learn more about our choice of products and oils, at that time of the year, and can smell the essence used, and maybe make it your own.Paolo and Miky wish you all to have a good time.WELCOME ... in Amelie wonderland!

“One of the best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2012

This is shown as the number 1 restaurant in Baveno and after a visit here you know why. It's a small restaurant off the beaten track. There is nothing special about the building nor the inside. The food though is to die for. It's a bit more expensive than its counterparts but you do pay for quality. We had probably one of the best meals ever. I started with the salmon followed by the steak finishing off with a sorbet. The steak was cooked to perfection and just melted in my mouth. My wife had mozarella with tomatoes, fish in tempra batter with soy sauce and finished with lavender with crime brulee. It was exquisite and well worth the money. Save up your euros and pay the place a visit. You will not regret it.

“Charming intimacy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2012

Amelie is a tiny restaurant hidden in the upper part of Baveno, but very easy to find and a lovely walk on the winding back lanes of the town. We had the most delicious warm foccacia brought to our table straight away, complimentary Prosecco, a delicate duck starter..it was excellent all round - fantastic service, wonderful food (tempura, beef in Barrolo, passion fruit sorbet), tremendous good value - highly recommend.

“A little gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 10, 2012

We visited the Amelie restaurant on 24th August and were welcomed into the small but very nicely furnished dining area. The food was beautifully presented and the quality was excellent with an emphasis on using locally produced ingredients. Although the pricing may at first seem slightly high, this is only because the cheaper items on other restaurants’ menus do not appear here and comparable dishes elsewhere are a similar price. However the little extras, such as the various home-made breads (including some hot dough balls) which were the best we have ever tasted and the amuse bouches, not to mention limoncello, as well as the chef coming to speak to us, made the meal particularly special. The wine list did not seem to include many less expensive options. Some visitors to Baveno may not find this little gem which is at the northern end of the town; turn left into Via Oltrefiume immediately after the Hotel Alpi, go under the railway bridge and then bear right until you reach a small square. It is signposted from the town centre (by the town plan just before the Hotel Dino) and is only about 15 minutes walk but well worth it!

“Smell of poetry”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2012

If you visit the Lake maggiore dont'miss the new, small restaurant, one of the best experiences with food and atmosphere I have had in Lumbardy in a while. The name of the restaurant is inspired by Le Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain, so as you can guess, french atmosphere, music, flowers, smells - there is an aromatherapy lab working here- and much more..Everything is nice here, from the bread basket with frittelle and chips made of potato peels (delicious) to the local fish, pasta and desserts.. I had very nice fish in carpione ( trout and other local fishes cooked with vinegar and herbs ) and a delicious courgette soup, while my friends splurged on trofie -a tipical pasta cooked with potatoes green beans and a basil and garlic sauce) and fish with olive sauce. even the passion fruit sherbet was delicous, the " staff"- Paolo and Miky -nice and friendly. The restaurant itself is in a small village close to Baveno, very quiet , with parking nearby.I'm definitely planning to come back soon...

“Pearl on the lake”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2012

I have been two times at this small new restaurant, which has a very good menu, with a nicely sized choice of courses. The cuisine is clearly the strongest part of this restaurants, all dishes are impeccably presented and delicious, pleasantly uncommon combinations. I had one of the best risotto ever (lemon) and when I tried to replicate its good taste I only went close, and it's relatively hard to find a restaurant risotto which I cannot make better at home – my personal benchmark. There is a notable accuracy in selecting raw materials, this is transparent in the end result.

The service is average, can be improved to match the target and the cuisine. We were served a bottle of wine opened before being presented to the taster (a minor slip, but this is standard when you pay 30+ euro for a bottle) and the wine was a tad too unchilled. To his credit, the waiter has apologized beforehand for the delay in bringing the second bottle, saying he had to put it in the freezer for a while. I suggest, next time, to simply say "sorry sir, we run out of chilled bottles, I suggest you to have this other one instead". Offering no extra charge for it (one is supposed to know what's available before ordering) would reach excellence.

Wine list itself is not overwhelming, the selection is sufficiently good.

We were very well treated for a price which is adequate to the quality of the food and of the restaurant.
