“Wonderful hotel close to Sirmione”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2011

Hotel ideally located - just a 5-10 minute walk into old town Sirmione, spotlessly clean, very helpful and friendly staff, breakfast fresh and plentiful, we spent most mornings sight seeing using the ferry and local bus service, afternoons sitting in the gardens with a drink from the bar watching the swans and wildlife on the lake. If arriving from Verona airport then easy to get the shuttle bus from the airport to the main bus station (6 euros payable on the bus) in Verona then take service 26 to Brescia (3.5 euros, tickets can be purchased in the newsagents just inside the bus station who will advise which bus stand it leaves from) which stops off in Sirmione, bus stop close to the hotel but if you miss it then bus turns around and comes back up the road. We had a fabulous time.

As Americans living in Europe we had heard about the hotel experience in Europe. Luckily we were prepared. The hotel Miramar is a no frills hotel, and after staying in some hotels since then have come to realize it is a typical hotel. Scuffs on the walls, minimal furniture (beds, wardrobe, and a small desk and desk chair) and comfort in the rooms, and a slight run-down or dated appearance. The breakfast was also typical European-pastries, breads, jellies, meats, and cheeses. Nothing spectacular, but we didn't go away hungry. Despite that, it was clean, the staff was friendly, and it is within walking distance (we were traveling with a 5 year old and a 7 year old and they made it just fine) to the major attractions and restaurants. We traveled in the fall and it was too cold to swim in the pool, but it looked like it would be nice in warm weather. There is also a beautiful view of the lake behind the hotel. The on thing we were not prepared for, however, was the rain. We spent a couple hours in the hotel one day drying off and avoiding the worst of the downpour. The kids got a bit bored as the TV was all in Italian and we didn't bring much for them to do. This isn't a complaint about the hotel, just a warning-if you have kids and the weather may be questionable (or if you just plan to spend some time in the room) bring something in case you are going to spend a long period of time in the room. There is plenty to do in the area that you should be able to find plenty to do. There is free parking on sight, which is nice. Overall, Hotel Miramar is a good hotel that I would stay out again.

Arrived by train from Venice to Desenzano and took a taxi (euro 20-23 for 4 people with luggage) to be greeted by very helpful and friendly staff. Free parking at hotel for those arriving by car is an added benefit, it can be expensive if using official / public car parks. Excellent location for Sirmione and lower Lake Garda, lake ferries and buses to various lake side locations - direct bus to and from Verona close to Miramar. For those wanting to relax there is a good sized pool and grassed sun lounger area overlooking Lake Garda which provides sun and shade all day. A hearty breakfast sets you up for the day and although we only ate in one night, the food was excellent and restaurant staff always attentive. Would highly recommend

Good location, clean rooms, very good breakfast - more then average in Italian hotels, free parking on a hotel's territory, a little bit overpriced.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2010

Spent 3 nights at the Miramar earlier this month. Really enjoyed our stay;the hotels location is its biggest selling point. It is literally 5-10 minutes from the walls of Sirmione on foot, and as we didn't have a car that was a lifesaver! We passed so many hotels on the bus on the way into the town and if we were staying in one of them it we would have had to depend on public transport to get to Sirmione (I did see a shuttle bus for the Hotel Du Parc, and some people had bikes- not sure if they were owned or rented; didn't notice a bike rental shop anywhere).

The hotel was spotlessly clean, the staff were friendly and helpful, and the pool area was brilliant. It was clean and quiet. The breakfast was good; typical of breakfasts in Italy - there was cold meats, cheese, snacks, bread etc. I know some reviewers have complained that the dining room was drab, but we ate breakfast/lunch on the terrace when we ate there and that was lovely. My partner was also delighted that we had SKY in the room, and he was able to watch sports while we were there. The only negative is that you had to pay extra for tea/coffee at breakfast and when we checked in we didn't get any maps/tips/helpful information. Overall, though, brilliant hotel.

Really loved Sirmione itself, ate in Valentinos twice as had a great meal the first night. Also had some icecream and snacks in the main square every night - the two snack bars there were great. Spent a day in Gardaland, which was brilliant! Got the bus to Peschiera and then the shuttle bus, easily done. Get the bus from Sirmione, get off at the stop on the outskirts of Peschiera (stop after you pass through city walls; ask bus driver as might not be clear), walk to the top of the road and hop on shuttle bus. On return, get bus to Sirmione from stop at Esso station.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2010

The hotel was easy to find being on the main road into Sirmione. Our room was extremely clean but sparse. The pillows extraordinarily uncomfortable (bags of cement as my partner described them!) and the bed covers very dated and worn. The towels were good though and changed every day if required. It is in a lovely location right on the lake but the small beach is not suitable for swimming due to the reeds and wild life. The pool was lovely when not in use by children. Breakfast was adequate and exactly what you would expect in a middle priced italian hotel. We didn't try the resturant but there was no catering at all after 8.30 on a sunday evening. The day staff were helpful and friendly, night staff a little more brusque. The decor is very 1960's. So, overall, the hotel is fine if perhaps somewhat ordinary.
