This restaurant was second to none that we have found anywhere. The ambience in the restaurant the staff and of course the fantastic food, which was prepared with great care and wonderful presentation is to die for.

“Fabulous meal - loved this restaurant!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2012 via mobile

My husband and I enjoyed a fabulous meal at La Rucola yesterday evening.

We opted for the large tasting menu consisting of both fish and meat, with the "big" wine pairing option. I particularly enjoyed all he fish courses. There were some unusual food combinations, all of which I really enjoyed - a great example being the huge beautifully cooked scallop which did notcome with either pumpkin of cauliflower - instead a meat sauce- a pleasant and delicious change from the usual Michelin starred restaurants we have visited!

All the wine pairings were excellent and went well with the food. We were offered a choice of wine with more than one course - but always went with the suggestion offered and were never disappointed!

Be warned this is - as billed - big - delicious but big! That said I would love to eat it all again today!

I'm no food expert I just know what I like - perhaps some of the food is not as technical as other establishments - perhaps the smaller front of house and no pretension does not appeal to all - for me it was just about perfect!
We are lucky enough to regularly enjoy fine dining and Michelin starred restaurants - this one would make my top 5, perhaps even top 3, beating some other better known or more starred restaurants. Do give it a go - I don"t think you'll be disappointed!

“Very different but very good Fusion style food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2011

Our visit on a foggy winters Sunday evening to La Rucola was a last minute decision found via the tripadvisor mobile site once into the car. What we found was totally unexpected. The restaurant offers both a-la-carte and set tasting menu's. Having opted for a simple 2-3 course a-la-carte option we were treated to some fantastic food with very attentive service. The courses were punctuated by exotic complimentary courses which turned the experience into a 6 course meal. The pre-desert consisted of 16 different tasters which having ordered dessert we had to leave most! The menu was only in Italian but our waiter was very helpful and offered great insight into each dish - very knowledgeable. This restaurant is not cheap and expect 100Euro per head minimum including wine but it does offer value. Just have to return in summer to enjoy the views in the area.

“Exciting and interesting and working really hard to treat the diners”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2011

When we visited La Rucola we walked in, having noted reviews of it but no particular expectations as to style or quality. I think that to begin with we were the only diners in there and that was everyone else's loss! It is a smart restaurant for a holiday resort like Sirmione, with good linen, good glass and good silver on the tables but not stuffy or formal: every table had an antique silver candlestick and each was different which was stylish and was like a quiet and dry sense of humour: made you feel good to appreciate it.

The food was as good as or better than anything we had eaten in Italy - including in some very expensive Venetian restaurants - with the chef working very hard to intrigue and bring pleasure to the diners not only with the main courses which were impeccably prepared and presented but also with little appetisers and side dishes which really did seem to come with the compliments of the chef and did complement what we ate or were going to eat; it made the meal exciting - what would come next - and delightful. The kitchen was generous with the ingredients - lots of scallops, beautiful quail - and treated the food with imagination and judgment so that it was interesting and distinctive and firmly on the right side of odd - a line that is often crossed by chefs with more enthusiasm than discretion.

This is a restaurant that visitors to the area should make a point of seeking out.
