“What an idyllic place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2012

We spent almost a week in the agriturismo Castello di Vezio. What a wonderful time did we have with our four children. Casa di pupa was a really nice house with a very beautiful view across the lake but also with a very nice grass lawn in front of the house where the children could enjoy and play football. There was a nice salted swimming pool, also with a wonderful view and we walked to the little 'hameau' of Vezio to eat a pizza. We were very pleased to find bread and jam in the fridge when we arrived at lunch time so we didn't have to go down again to do the errands.
The wifi didn't always work but we didn't miss that very much.
It's really a very romantic, friendly and wonderful spot to stay!

What a beautiful place. The views and accommodation are amazing and we can't wait to go back. The welcome book is crammed with info, however, some more directions on how to get to the attractions and eateries would be very helpful. This Place is an absolute gem and we would highly recommend it to couples and families alike!

We have just returned from a week at this beautiful place, staying in Casa Selva. Our apartment was wonderful, with stunning views from the terrace over Lake Como and the tiny village of Vezio, which just oozes old Italian charm. The bathroom was a particular feature, being built into the wall of the mountain with one wall of the shower being bare rock face! The bathroom and kitchen fittings were good quality and tasteful, with excellent coffee making facilities. The toaster was a little unusual, but perfectly formed, as with everything else in this apartment. Being located at the entrance to the Agriturismo, you have a bird's eye view of local activities from Casa Selva's terrace. However, if you are looking for total seclusion and privacy you might want to consider another apartment. The shared pool was, again, tasteful and understated, and quiet with usually only one other family using it at the same time as us. The Castello de Vezio is worth several visits as it's only a short walk from the Agriturismo and the views from the top of the castle are sublime. This is a beautiful place to stay on Lake Como - we couldn't imagine anywhere more perfect - and it's only a short car ride with a few hairpin bends thrown in (or steep downhill walk), down to Varenna with its winding streets and lakefront cafes. Who could ask for more? We were sad to leave.

A beautiful place, very quiet, well kept garden, stunning views on the lake, great swimming pools and the starting point of some nice hikes at the lake and in the surrounding mountains. For families who like to be on their own: highly recommended!

Room Tip: We stayed in Casa Selva. It had a stunning view on the lake from two small terraces around the house...

A fantastic place with lots of time to enjoy the holiday. We lived in Casa Donato near the swimmingpool. It was our first time in Castello di Vezio, but not the last time. We will bee beck another time.

We enjoyed an excellent time in this beautiful setting, above the Lago di Como!
I recommended the place to all my friends and I am very positive that some of them will show up in the coming vacation times.
I sure will keep this nice place as a hide out, when I need a relaxing time from the busy life.
Besides, from our place it is only 2 1/2h drive to this hide out.
With kind regards

We stayed for 2 weeks in Casa Giovanni, a small 2 bedroom one floor property over looking the Olive tree garden & communial swimming pool. A short walk up a path takes you to the main grounds with wonderfully intricite pathways that lead you around the property and the breathtaking views of Lake Como and the town of Varenna beneath. It truly is a stunning location so it's no surprise that it doesn't come cheap. But if you want a real 'home from home' accommodation with a full kitchen, lovely bathroom, sky tv and the huge bonus of your own washing machine tucked away in a handy little utility area then it's worth paying that extra bit more for. Personally, the only thing I could fault about Casa Giovanni, is that the beds are quit uncomfortable, very firm, but that's a personal choice. There isn't any broadband connection in the property, which is the only other downside. But it's a 5 min walk up to the loft area where you can access free wi-fi anyway, so it's not too much of a hardship not having any internet available in the house. The communial swimming pool was reguarly cleaned, and the gardens are maintained reguarly too. The staff (although generally couldn't speak English) were very pleasant.

The walk down to Varenna is most definitely not for a rainy day (very slippy), and also more suitable to people who are used to tackling walking up & down very steep slopes. Once you are in Varenna, either by foot or car, then it's a beautiful little lakeside town. Also be aware that everything shuts down Sundays and during the afternoons for siesta.

There's a church bell which chimes every half hour (loudly!). You do think at first that it's going to completely irritate you the entire time, but actually it becomes quite soothing and was a handy way to tell the time!

Finally, there are also calfs kept chained up on site in a very small brick barn area. I understand that it's normal procedure throughout Italy to keep these animals chained up, as they will eventually be used for Veal meat. Personally, I find that method of keeping them quite disturbing, so if you have any similiar feelings on this then I advise you not to go venturing and having a look.

Room Tip: I believe that Casa Giovanni, being on one level with a lovely outside garden is probably the most i...
