This very interesting hotel, site of a former orphanage on the side of the mountain, has spectacular views of Lake Como and the old town. Unless you are stout of limb and endowed with great stamina, it is not easy to walk from the train station or ferry dock. The streets are rough cobblestone and uphill all the way to the hotel which is about 6 km from the city center. A taxi is about 10 Euro provided you can find one once you get to the main road, or train station, and well worth the effort, we asked one of the local businesses to call a taxi which they did gladly. The hotel is made of of a lower section and two upper building accessed by funiculars. Unless you are willing to walk into the city center or take a cab, there is not much to do at the hotel (great if you just want to rest and enjoy the scenery), there is a restaurant at the hotel and the breakfast is plentiful and varied' The staff was friendly and courteous, the room a decent size with a balcony overlooking the lake, and clean but noisy at night, we could hear people in the next room snoring. There are no carpets in the hotel so anyone coming or going can be heard outside the room at night. The bathroom was a good size and the tub/shower large enough for comfort.
