“Full privacy and beautiful view”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2013

Stayed in Villa Cipressi hotel in room Villa Magnolia. There is a beautiful well-groomed garden in hotel where like to provide weddings local population therefore the restaurant of hotel is often closed. Hotel staff very useful.

Room Villa Magnolia is rather big - about 40 m or more. The big and well equipped bathroom. Huge balcony with a smart view of the lake. Sitting on this balcony you feel as the owner of own private villa. Such impression that this small lodge served earlier as an arbor at Villa Cipressi. In room it is necessary to replace windows which are badly closed therefore even in June at bad weather it was rather cool. But in room to be in a full privacy - there are no neighbors from above and sideways.

The sad impression was left by a breakfast. Very modest. Fried eggs can't be received even for an additional payment. But most of all surprised 3 iron barrels with inscriptions: coffee, hot water, milk. For 360 euros per night it would be desirable to see at least the coffe machine, allowing to receive some types of coffee, and also to have opportunity to receive fried eggs.

This was where we began our Italian adventure. It was a perfect start to a wonderful two weeks. Very convenient, comfortable--and wonderful breakfasts! The view from our room was worth the walk from the train station. Besides, the town is downhill from the station. We missed out seeing the garden--a wedding was in progress the day/night we were there. Will definitely plan to stay more than one night next trip!

Room Tip: Get a room with a view of Lake Como. You won't regret it!

Had the most lovely stay at Villa
Cipressi this month. Were here for a friends wedding and the staff were great.

Cleaning staff always friendly. Front desk spoke very good English and were helpful.

Rooms are not modern but that's the charm of being in a small town of Lake Como. Always very clean and served there purpose.

View from my window amazing. Would recommend staying at this charming little hotel if wanting to visit Lake Como.

This hotel has the best location in Varenna on Lake Como, because it is directly on the lake and offers spectacular 180 degrees views! No cars and no noise between the seashore and the hotel, which is fabulous and relativelty rare for being on Lake Como, where in general it can be quite noisy.
We have booked their nicest ALESSANDRO MANZONI SUITE (305) at 275€ per night which was an old fashioned, noble italian style surprise. We liked it here!
The suite (on the upper floor) is spacious and offers 4 big windows with magnificent views over manicured gardens, and of course overlooking as well the lake.
The bed was comfortable with lake views while being in bed, the furniture was ok but quite old fashioned. Curtains are very beautiful and tasteful. Pity that there is no terrace or balcony, that would be a must in my opinion... A big delusion was the tiny bathroom. There was a very narrow shower only, but no bathrub. For a suite priced at 275€ per night one really expects much more from a bathroom.
Service at reception was good and efficient.
Service at the restaurant was something between ok and good. Some staff seemed quite stressed around dinner time, but they were mostly nice.
Quality of food was ok as well, but nothing to write about. We ordered shrimps (gamberoni) but they were not a real joy seeming deep frozen and quite tasteless.
The hotel gardens are very extensive, full of palm trees and lovely flowers everywhere! To my knowledge there is no swimming pool...
There is a nearby garage (20€ per day!) where you can park your car. All in all this is a very charming 3 * hotel which in my opinion could easily earn a fourth star...
No WiFi inside the Suite - that disappointed me. Maintenance in general of the suite was okay but not excellent. But keep in mind that you have only booked a 3* hotel and not a famous and posh place. So it's obvious that some comodities such as a nice and spacious elevator are
missing, or that you have to check out at 10.30 already. Or that breakfast is quite scarse compared to a 3* hotel in nearby Switzerland... By the way, during the night it was quiet, but towards the morning hours one could hear quite a lot of noise from cars and nearby trains.
However, it's a pleasant hotel to spend the night before heading on for Bellagio...

Varenna is a pretty little lakeside town, much less commercial and touristy than Bellagio across the lake. The hotel is situated right on the lake with stunning views and set in beautiful gardens. A lake view is a must, and try to get room 207 which is the only one with a balcony and the views are magical. We ate in the restaurant and had an excellent meal, well served, and not too expensive given the location. The front desk staff were charming and helpful. A few caveats: this is a 3 star hotel, and there are ceiling fans rather than aircon. The less said about the showers and plumbing the better. But overall a wonderful place to stay and pretty reasonable prices.

Room Tip: Ask for room 207 - the only lake view with a balcony

With a lake view, what a view to wake up to!! Walls are somewhat thin, but fortunately had noisy neighbors only one night. Breakfast was wonderful. Varenna is unbelievably beautiful, even seeming as if it was just built to look old and perfect. The hotel garden is a must see.

I was keen to find a restaurant away from the immediate hot spots in Varenna. We happen to come across the Hotel Villa Cipressi just off the main square up on the hill. The hotel is very elegant and has beautiful lakeside gardens the terrace of which provide the setting for lunch. They offer a limited but very nice lunchtime menu and very good accompanying wine list. After lunch you can take the opportunity to wander around the beautiful gardens. So well worth a visit.
