“Well worth going- we really enjoyed it!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2014

Although it was quite a walk to find and reach the museum, I'm very glad we did. It was really interesting and well laid out. It would be a great shame to be in Como and not visit. Our own trip was enlivened by an absolutely extraordinary thunderstorm when we left with enormous hailstones and torrential rain that turned the roads into mini rivers!

“Worth a visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 22, 2014

Tucked away at the back of the town near the University (away from the lake) this is definitely worth a visit. Silk manufacturing was the dominant industry in Como and this tells the story from the early days of silk worm farms and the laborious processes involved in spinning, dyeing, weaving and selling the cloth, right up until Asian imports took over. Visitors are supplied with full notes in English. Anyone with experience or interest in the manufacture of fabric will enjoy this. My Bradford born OH recognised some of the methods which were also used in the manufacture of wool cloth.

There is also a small shop so I couldn't resist coming away with a beautiful heavy silk scarf - made in Como naturally - for only €40.

“Out of the way, but very interesting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2013

For anyone interesting in the silk industry at all, this is a gem. It is a bit off the beaten track and you have to take a bus, but it is very interesting. Not on the tourist route, but the staff speaks English and the signs are in English and it gives a very good insight into the history of the silk trade and especially the silk industry in Como.

“the once great trade of Como”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2013

Como was once famous for its beautiful, artistic silk products, which has now, sadly, become a victim of economic problems and foreign, cheap imports. This museum attempts to show the tremendous skills of the local silk workers, many of whom still live in Como. when you visit this museum, you feel that the trade should be revised, as nothing compares to the original.
