“Good hotel and rooms, embarrassing breakfast.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2014

I stayed there for 1 night only with my small family. The hotel looks actually very nice, it's quite modern, spacious and clean, including the rooms. The internet was surprisingly good (compared to other hotels I've been to) and the parking place is next to the hotel. The location is pretty good, it's not exactly in the city center but close by so only 5 minutes walk and you have arrived to the perimeter of the city center and after 5 more minutes of walking you are in the heart of Como.

However, not everything was so good. There was a buzz, probably in the AC, at all times which made my fiance super annoyed. I didn't really notice it but something that should be taken into consideration. For me, breakfast is the most important when I'm traveling. A good, proper breakfast to start the day in a new city where you don't know where the next grocery shop is highly important. The biggest reason why I chose Lizard Hotel was because it was said to be "varied buffet" and not sweet breakfast which is common for Italian hotels. The photos of the breakfast looked also great, so I was sold. Oh boy, what a disappointment. The breakfast was a disaster; the bread was like the ones that you buy in a bulk for half a euro in those plastic bags (dry, disgusting bread full of preservatives and taste like toilet paper), the croissants were like the ones you buy frozen and are super dry and hard, then the cereal was made up by fake Cornflakes and some chocolate muesli which would have been OK had the milk (if it was milk, I'm not sure) not completely made the cereal absolutely uneatable by its horrible taste. So, my breakfast consisted of boiled eggs and yogurts. And it was the same with my fiance and little boy, eggs and yogurts was the only thing we could consume or wanted to consume. I also asked the servant if he could give me more natural yogurt but he didn't understand me, which I find strange since I spoke English and if a worker in a hotel doesn't understand simple request in English, he shouldn't be working in a hotel. So the whole experience with the breakfast made the stay kinda disappointing.

Owners of Lizard Hotel; please, consider to either raise the price of the hotel room by a couple of euros or make the breakfast optional and charge accordingly, just improve the breakfast instead of trying to save money on something so important.

The staff was very friendly and always did their best to help you and accommodate your needs with a smile always on their face.

It is attached to a nice restaurant. The breakfast is OK, but their dinners are fantastic. They have a deal for Lizard hotel guests, 2 dishes and a glass of wine per person for 15 euro each, but make sure you are ordering off the day menu. It gets pricey if you don't.

The rooms are nice enough and it is only a short walk to the old town of Como.

I took a car from Malpensa and it was easy to drive straight to the hotel having there own parking place. The hotel is modern, but the rooms have not so good soundproofing. While I was staying I had no problems, but could feel the phenomena. The breakfast was fairly adequate, so the over all experience was a satisfactory- apart Wi-fi which was slow and unstable.

This hotel is an average one. The rooms are quite small and the amenities are barely passable. The owner couple and other family members are quite warm and friendly but don't ask them for any directions -they are lousy at this. The restaurant attached to this hotel is quite good for authentic local cuisine and good wine.

My hubby had intended to book the Hotel Como (a nice place) but instead somehow booked us into a dirty 2 star. The walls of room were filthy - I think it was an handicapped room by the look of the toilet and shower. The hotel shuts of the power to the air con at 2am to save power. We went down to complain (the staff are nice). They moved us to a one bedroom. This was a much cleaner as well as a larger room with a bedroom and large living area with pull out sofa (not too bad). But the still shut off the air con. The breakfast was dry and the worst we'd had in a month. It's difficult to find the hotel as the signage is poor (the entrance is off an alley) and they charge for parking. There are some grocery stores near by which was a bonus and a computer we could use.

Room Tip: get the one bedroom.

Not that we haven't stayed at cosmopolitan and exceptionally luxurious hotels but this one I will remember mostly because of the owner. He was extremely friendly and warm and he was almost everywhere, anytime! Most of all he was flexible and smart, always with a sweet smile on his face. A small hotel but if you'd ask me, yes I would gladly spend another vacation at Larius.
Additionaly its not located in some fancy seashore but you can walk everywhere from the Hotel without needing a car or a taxi. Very convenient. The day I was leaving he told me he would open his next hotel in Athens, Greece.... I'm waiting :)

The Staff was really friendly and they had a computer installed at the reception, where you were able to use the internet for free. The breakfast was ok: bread, marmelade, honey, cheese, ham, coffee and orange juice. The room was ok, too. It's not the cleanest and the walls are really thin. But compared to the price we paid, it was (as I already mentioned) ok.
